Best credit card to earn airmiles

I feel like a dope because I just realized what Star Alliance means.. KrisFlyer miles can be used on any Star Alliance airline, right? So I could use those to upgrade seats on ANA and EVA Air as well?

I currently bank with BCA but may look at others. For example, CIMB offers 2 KrisFlyer miles per Rp 10,000. And some others let you redeem for KrisFlyer as well as Garuda and/or AirAsia.

This is all new to me, so I'm just trying to wrap my head around it all.

This guy does a pretty good job of keeping up to date on the best offers but note that it does change frequently.

I use bca/krisflyer and get a lot of miles but ive been wanting to change to a Garuda option for a while because i find SQ redemption costs are getting higher and the availability keeps reducing. Plus i already have a lot of miles with SQ. I tried a few options including Mega bank and UOB but they were all quite restrictive on giving cc's to foreigners even with kitap. They really just wanted a large deposit amount.

I have a lot of airline miles from US and South American airlines.

Pre-covid, these usually were pretty easy to use. After flights opened up again, it’s been getting harder and harder to find any coach or premium class tickets.

When we flew last minute in March 2020, we found tons of Business class and even some First class flights. Plus planes were almost empty.

Even though airlines may be in the same alliance, doesn’t mean that mileage upgrades will carry over from one to the other. Often an airline will be generous with their own members, but not others.

Basic airline alliances:

Star Alliance-ANA, United, Singapore, Thai, EVA, Avianca

One World-JAL, Qantas, American, Alaska, Cathay Pacific

Skyteam-Korean, Delta, China Air, Air France/KLM

Many alliances awards are good on their partner airlines. I have booked dozens of Business and First awards using American Airlines miles. Mostly on Cathay and JAL. You used to be able to fly round trip first to SE Asia for 135k miles. Business was 110k.

I find American Airline miles still some of the easiest to use. I have decent balances with Delta, Alaska and Lifemiles (Avianca), but find them much harder to use. They often have superlong connections, or flights where you pay for business class, but most segments are in coach.
