We are hoping to include a few days in Bali while in-country this summer. The last time we were there in 2014, we stayed at the Green Field Hotel on Jl. Pengosekan on the edge of Ubud. It was just fine and not too expensive, as well as close enough for us to walk to most of the Ubud attractions.

After climbing Mount Bromo, we will probably fly into Denpasar from Malang. The plan is to stay in Ubud again, but before booking the Green Field, I would appreciate accommodation suggests, especially from full time Bali residents.

Thanks in advance for share your thoughts.

I haven't been to Bali for almost 20 years, so I can't help you with hotels in Ubud. But since you're traveling west to east, if you have time, I would highly recommend seeing another volcano after Bromo: Kawah Ijen. I found it much more impressive than Bromo and family and friends who have also seen both volcanos agree to that. It has a beautiful blue lake and you can descend into the crater to where they mine the sulphur. The only thing I can think of why Bromo is more populair than Mount Ijen is that it's quite a long climb (and slippery during rain season).

If you are in the Malang area I highly recommend you stay a day or two in Batu and visit the eco-park, or any of the other parks there. I was shocked they had such great parks in the middle of Java...equal to any Disney theme.
Also...if feeling adventurous... you could go to Pasuruan and take the 'executive' train all the way to Banyuwangi and cross the street to the ferry to Bali. The train offers an enjoyable 6 hours of watching scenery, as it meanders around volcanoes, in an aircraft type reclining seat with hostesses pushing trolleys with snacks, etc.... and it's air-conditioned...maybe too cold!
The ferry is only 1/2 hour then a 3 hour bus ride to Denpasar....where you can connect to Ubud.

Totally agree with this, the chairs beat any aircraft seat hands down with their coil springs. The last time we took the executive train to Surabaya, they played 'Unstoppable' on the screen, a movie about a train heading for a disasterous crash. Excellent choice.

I don't know how much time we will have, but thanks for the inviting suggestions for both a Mt.Ijen hike and the Batu eco-park. We were thinking about the train ride and ferry crossing, as well, but again time is the limiting factor and my wife wishes to take in all that Ubud has to offer..

If we don't do them this time, I am not so old that there will not be other opportunities. Thanks, you all.

Now about that hotel in Ubud ....

Whatever hotel you decide to book I'd suggest getting in touch directly. Most hotels/resorts in Ubud are nearly empty, and some are desperate, but the online agents wont tell you that....you might be able to bargain with the front-desk for a better deal than an online travel agent.

i.e. My relatives own a 5-star 30 villa resort outside Ubud and it has been empty for weeks. Other relatives and the owners, from Jakarta, recently stayed there just to keep the staff occupied...yet Booking.com say only 5 villas left so must hurry to book. B/S.

C'mon Davita, don't be shy, what is the name of the resort? Always looking for new places to try in Ubud.

I asked my relatives if I can pass the info to you but they said I should get a copy of your latest bank statement first...Is that OK?:spy::wof::thumb:

It's ok, I can afford it. I'm only interested in possibly staying there, not buying the place! :dizzy: PM me if you'd rather not share publicly? Cheers

I was just kidding about the account.
I didn't want to advertise....only to use the info to make my point that Waarmstrong could probably get a deal by approaching the hotels directly.
The resort owned by my wife's cousin is Puri Wulandari....it is expensive and luxurious although I've never spent a night there...just had meals.

I have heard great stories about Visesa Resorts and they are on my list to one day check out on staycation, but no first hand experience.

and a blatant lie, because (spoiler alert) I believe the train did actually stop at the end??

should be called "unstartablle" or "unfinished" - the gripping story of the jakarta MRT

Yes, they managed to stop it in the end. But that's Hollywood...
I wonder if Garuda has started showing 'Air crash Investigation' yet on their domestic flights..

For sure Air Asia and Lion will never stoop so low as to show those kind of movies....come to think of it...they don't show any friggin' movies!

Nope, they do it "for real" now and then.....

Oops, sorry, back to topic !

Happy that some of you have been able to side-bar my inquiry for a few off topic laughs. And thanks to those who actually made hotel suggests. I will be checking them out... with direct calls to the front desk, of course.
