Bali retail chain popular with expats goes under

Lotte Is my choice when in town; not the grocery stores but rather the Wholesale Lotte in Pasar Rebo (off Jalan PT Simatupang a bit west of the Kampung Rambutan bus terminal). Its where many of the small restaurateurs in Jaktim shock up for the day (week?). It's a good place for fresh produce -- if you sleep in and miss the early morning street markets -- as well as fresh fish and meat. (One rarely gets food poisoning shopping there.) Carrfour (doesn't matter which one) are Ok in a rudimentary, ordinary sort of way. Grand Lucky, Ranch are best for pretentious locals and expats longing for a taste of home and willing to pay for it.

ps "Town" meaning Jakarta, which is in the same country as Bali, so I am not too far off topic.

Just for info, Hardy's Sanur seems to have started some serious discounts. We bought some Bali style picture frames, wood and glass front. Originally at around 160 k, discounted 40% plus 30%, final price 57 k.
Wife bought a few to bring back to the Java jungle house..

If they really close shop, there may be some interesting sales prices.
Supermarket more and more empty....

The Warung across the street closed so now I've got to go down two houses to get my coffee or a Pac of cigs . Life sucks ...what if it rains ?...ohhh wait they just opened back up . Whew they went to get a bottle of water.

It's a shame for all those employees.

Will you be inconvenienced much by the closing, dafluff?

(And any other forum members residing in Bali ... will this be a problem for you?)
I live in Bali, and it is becoming a nuisance but there are many other supermarkets, but fresh meat is the difficulty. Indomart etc dont stock meats or fresh vegetables. I feel for the employees, steady jobs are hard to find.

I don't know about Bali, however I get my fresh meat/produce from the local market. I assume Bali has markets too.
Ours in Bandung open at 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning & that is the best time to pick up the freshest meat.

Very early morning is the only time to shop for fresh meat in the open air street markets.

Sanur Hardy's still open. Cashier receipts named "Arta Sedana Retailindo" now ?
So, all good for the meat !
Very seldom go to the market here. Of course in the jungle village in Java, its about the only choice...

I think for people living away from the south of bali must now be having problems, as the less busy branches are closing , needs a long hike to get supplies .:suspicious:

As long as you are not in Jakarta, long hikes are good for you.
