Aviation info.

They were as part of a group already active in the cargo world, now it’s been extended to commercial passenger flights. BBN Airlines Indonesia has three Boeing 737-800 for those passenger flights next to the three cargo planes, they aim to have 40 planes by 2027.
Just realized my QA flight tomorrow from Doha to Kigali is B 737-800, more than 6 hours flight. Denpasar - Doha A350-1000

Just like Etihad (to a Spanish company flying from Abu Dhabi), Qatar Airways outsources many flights between Doha and Indonesia (esp. Jakarta). So then it’s often Garuda. Those flights are also somewhat cheaper. And they introduced a ‘business light’ which doesn’t give lounge access. If you want that you have to cough up 2,4 juta extra. Gila.

yes, the doha -kigali leg will served by Rwanda air. But at least the Doha lounge is very nice.

Depends on the lounge. The one in Doha for business (and first) is huge and very good with nice facilities and food. The one for silver and gold members is rather small and nothing special.

Do any of you have experience with the Air Asia ASEAN Pass ?

info here
I checked into it and my wife was told by a friend that actually worked for Air Asia that they make it practically impossible for you to use the pass effectively. Seems like there are a bunch of internal tricks they can play to keep you from getting too much out of it. However, if you do get one and have a different experience, I would love to know.

Manufacturer Airbus announced it will run test flights with one pilot in the cockpit from 2027. Computers then take over the work of the second pilot. Only the take-off and landing are done as usual with two persons.

According to manufacturers Airbus and Dassault and the European Aviation Safety Agency (Easa), it should be possible starting in 2030, to gradually introduce that the aircraft is permanently controlled by one pilot only. As a step in moving to pilot-less aircrafts. Pilot unions don’t seem happy.

Everyone is obviously using this example which happened some time ago but only got known to the public recently, to make their case:

During a flight of the German airline Lufthansa, the co-pilot fainted while the captain was going to the toilet. The 199-passenger plane, on its way from Frankfurt to Seville, flew for about ten minutes without a pilot.

Although the unconscious co-pilot apparently unintentionally operated the steering stick, the plane could continue to fly stably thanks to the automatic pilot. The captain finally managed to open the secure door to the cockpit with an emergency code. He had only followed the training a month earlier. He had entered the normal code, which activates a sound alert so that the fellow pilot knows to open the door, five times in vain.

Whoa, that sounds so scary! Because of this, there should be more than one pilot, and have Auto pilot too. And if both fail, then the plane should able to be controlled from a control tower somewhere close by! This is stuff, they make scary movies out of!

So I wonder how the Hudson River emergency landing might have played out if totally controlled by AI. Would AI try to land on the river and would it have that capability or decide instead to land on a freeway.

That's a good question? Luckily the Pilot landed on the river, and no one was killed! If a jet that big landed on a Freeway, there definitely would have been people killed in Vehicles, and maybe the Plane would have hit a bridge or big trucks? I think it was better having a Good Pilot, with Training! But AI can think super fast, so who knows what it would have done? 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏾‍♀️🙏

The amount of victims of the Air India crash is increasing by the minute.

Terrible to see that video with the explosion and fireball when it hit the ground.

It seems the plane flew right through a building with students. It’s a miracle that at least one passenger survived.

The attack of Israel on Iran might also have some major implications for international consumer aviation.

The routes to Europe will be affected of course. Especially for QA but also Emirates and Etihad could be rerouting.

Not to mention the probable spike in oil prices..

A miracle indeed, he did not just survive, he walked off to the ambulance on his own! Absolutely mind blowing.

As expected after the rocket attack on the American base, the Qatari airspace was completely closed for some time. It just openend again.

Qatar Airways reissues new tickets for those affected, obviously they have to be QR operated flights on the same original route (same origin/destination) and cabin class and you need to travel by 15th July 2025. Refunds are also possible.

PT Garuda Indonesia is in talks to buy Boeing planes as the flag carrier seeks to expand its international network, its CEO said.

The airline is discussing buying between 50 and 75 jets from the US manufacturer, including 737 Max 8 and 787-9 models, Wamildan Tsani Panjaitan told reporters in Jakarta on Thursday.

Panjaitan, speaking after a meeting with Indonesia’s Coordinating Economic Minister, declined to give a time frame or state whether any transaction would form part of expected Indonesia-US trade and investment deals.

Garuda’s board appointed Panjaitan as CEO in November, he was at Lion before. He was tasked with fixing the company’s balance sheet and expanding its international network. The airline, which recorded a net loss last year, recently secured a $405 million loan from sovereign wealth fund Danantara to help expand its fleet.

The company aims to operate 120 aircraft over the next five years, compared to the 98 now (with low-cost carrier Citilink).
