Any motorcyclists on here.

Vespa now make the 300 in Vietnam so prices have dropped about 35%.

I've also got the Vero 150 and am happy with it. Its my frist scooter , had some bad boys in the states ( real motorcycles) . It took a bit to get use to the scooter. One thing I found out is you don't want to lean forward on a scooter , they get all squirrelly. They are designed to take the weight in the front of the bike and being a big guy ( for indonesia) when I would be leaning forward the starting got all wobbly.thought I had some wrong with the front end , checked tire pressure and checked if the front wheel was lossse Sit up straight towards the back of the seat and it handles like a dream ..felt so stupid when I read about not putting to much weight on the front wheel.

Salvation? The venerable Suzuki TS 125 from 2005 is available used. Not need for ABS as it only has a drum brakes:biggrin1:

Maybe "a bit" off-topic again, but as long as is connected with motor (as they say in Indonesia), guess not worth opening a new topic chain...

Indonesians DO love their bureaucracy in some weird / perverted way? I joined an Aerox club (ARCI, Jakarta chapter - feel already like a H-D rider lol ) and the list of rules and regulations is just overwhelming... Attend this and this many meetings, use protective gear including shoes (yes, 'use shoes' was in the rules...), must present driver's license (honestly it became almost a problem when I said that I have a Finnish license with international driver's license - guess they never saw that coming in their pre-plans because they needed the Indonesian license number! :D ), motor registration and vehicle frame number, attach passport pic etc. etc.

Man, in any other place I've been just name and paid membership fee would have been enough! :D

8 months with Aerox and guess soon is time to jump back to "proper" bikes (you know, real gears and engine where it should be...).

As the +300 cc bikes generally are hugely expensive, it'll be a 250 cc most likely. I'm already too old (or my back actually) for sports bikes so it'll be a choice between a Honda CRF250 Rally or Kawasaki's Versys 250 or KLX250S (all around 62 - 65.000.000). Bike will be used mostly for worktrips and city riding, but also some trips around (Western) Java. At the moment Honda is on top of wish list.

KTM sells their (made in India) 250 Duke cheap - 45.000.000 - but still that is a bit too Transformers-looking thing, also Yamaha sells 250 cc MT-25 with similar price tag and that'd be a twin (also Kawa Versys is a twin).

Then there is a brand-new Enfield Himalayan 400 with +80.000.000 price. All new but not too excited with Enfield's quality (if anything like older Bullets) and local bike SOIB with Chinese 400cc engine (Racer 65.000.000, Adventurer 82.000.000).

Someone in the f-i-l traded in his large Kawa Versys for the 250 Tourer version and he’s extremely happy with the smaller size. But parking with the 650 was easier since at many malls (as MKG), they provide dedicated parking close by. But to me it’s still rather big for city traffic, I will look at it for Bali though.

Can always put '650' stickers in them! :D At least Kota Kasablanka mall has a tiny bike park right in front of mall for +600cc bikes.

Still scootering after 35 years the last 23 years in Indonesia.
Have rebuild literally dozens of classic Vespa's.
Get a set of spanners and the bike of your choice and get your hands dirty - you wont regret it. Still such a satisfying hobby.

Actually I can still remember overhearing my dad trying to appease my worried mum in the kitchen as a kid. "don't worry love", "when he is 17 in a few months he'll want to get a car" " and hell give up these scooters" :tongue1::tongue1:

Yeah well I'm more into bikes; Aerox was my 1st scooter ever (and no regrets; was fun learning tricks of local traffic with it): http://www.heikkil.net ;)

Up up! Covid restrictions ARE gonna go away one day, and bike trips further than closest warung again possible... Anybody left in Jabodetabek area with bikes? Puncak calling!

My "dreams" about bigger bikes were postponed thanks to buying a house, so traded Aerox for a Byson (Good deals now; they ended making Bysons so a brand new 1 km in odo was 16 jt... Now that cannot be a bad deal!). At least the engine is in right place and has proper gears! :D
