Hi. We are planning a trip from Jakarta to Bali next month. Looking at Super Air Jet Airlines. Anyone have any experience with them? We used to fly with Lion and no complaints, Super is under Lion so expect similar service and reliability.

Any comments?

In Indonesia I use mostly AirAsia, Citilink and Garuda. Reccomendation from people in the airline maintenance business.

SJ is ok
Ironically as you said owned by lion. Same as batik
But batik and SJ rarely have problems or delays
Only lying air

Some prefer to go through Halim on city

These days seems most airlines cancel delay reschedule postpone their flights to bali a lot

So plan accordingly

Garuda of course the better but mahal

Air asia stay away. Fewer flights mean miss or delay costs your 6-8 hours not just the next lion air one an hour later

And I'm not joking but if you are 6-8+ look into chartering your own
Honestly not a lot of difference $$
Take a turboprop not a jet and it's a couple of thousand if that
Divide by 6-8 and for the experience and novelty and service

But just a random idea
If you a big family like 8 + nanny and 16 bags etc

It seems you may be just lucky. Lion has a well established reputation for unreliability and delays.

A statement by the CEO in Indonesian media shows that the company will use a low-cost model. Super Air Jet would like to focus mainly on young, price-conscious passengers with a smooth appearance.

Lion Air Group currently has three airlines in its portfolio: Lion Air, Batik Air and Wings Air. With Super Air Jet, the aviation group would like to strengthen its market share and attract a younger audience.

Yes, the founder and owner of Lion and Super Air Jet Airlines is the same guy.

As other people have said you have been lucky if you have not experienced any delay. But many people not on business trip/meeting could tolerate the delay for a few hours. Also the airlines compensate it with their low cost, affordable to many people.

In my personal opinion, if they could improve the safety records, Lion Air & Super Air Jet Airlines have done a great job for Indonesia and Indonesian people.

It allows, people from other islands to travel to other islands, cities. In the past the only option is travelling by ship which might take 2-3 days. Or fly Garuda Indonesia Airways and pay a dear. Garuda Indonesia Airways although charging people a premium, they are not well managed. Their international fleets can not even compete with Emirates. Emirates booked a few billions USD profit in year 2023 alone while Garuda keep making loss. I am really sorry to see Garuda Indonesia ground staffs, foot soldiers, and stewardesses, great people who have become the victims of mismanagement and corruption.

Lion and Super Air Jet highlight how inefficient and corrupt the State owned Enterprise Garuda Indonesia is.

List of BUMNs that have suffered major losses in Indonesia, who is the worst?
Garuda Indonesia is #1 on the list

Also Lion and Super Air Jet Airlines with their cooperation with other fleets in South East Asia, they allow ordinary Indonesian people to travel to other SE Asian countries. In the past these options were just for the wealthy people.

I hope you were well compensated for the infomercial.

Some of Garuda's management has been replaced, resulting in reduced ticket prices and hopefully better competition with other international airlines.

Garuda has been one of Indonesia's loss-making state-owned enterprises, even topping the list.

In contrast, Emirates has consistently offered lower ticket prices and arguably better services than Garuda while still making a healthy profit.

It doesn't take deep investigation to understand why Garuda has struggled to compete internationally in the past.

Anyone has advice for a travel insurance? Planning to fly to my home country next month.

My wife always uses the mandatory Schengen Travel Insurance which is offered by many companies online. Not such a bad idea to consider these since they’re for the whole Schengen area. And not only medical but also liability and baggage insurance. (For flights we‘re normally covered by EU laws.)

Last time she used Europ Assistance…

and before that this one…

….but there are many.

This might not be helpful for those who have already purchased insurance, but for future reference, there's a website called Defaqto. Defaqto is an expert rating agency that evaluates various reputable international insurance companies.

I have noticed a few international insurance providers that have received 5-star ratings from this organization, either from personal experience or through comments from others who have used them.

The true quality of an insurance provider is only revealed when you need to make a significant claim, not when you're buying it and feel like a VIP. However, it's also essential to be balanced with the price or premium that need to be paid.

Today in the news ..

Who doesn't know them: passengers who stand in line with their hand luggage as quickly as possible in an attempt to be the first to go on board. Airlines will take action against these so-called "gate lice".

During tests at various American airports, passengers who scan their boarding pass but not yet their turn at the zone-boarding, will get an alarm signal. GATE employees then receive a report so that they can instruct the passengers to stand aside, until their group is called and it is their turn to board.

It’s funny how these news reports are talking about gate lice. It’s been used on frequent flyer sites like flyertalk.com for 20 years, I’d guess.
