Over here it recently has gotten more attention in the local press and social media (the ibu[sup]2[/sup] and fanatics love it), that he will divorce his wife Veronica Tan since she has had an (ongoing) affair with an old friend.

Ahok was an excellent person as far as Jakarta was concerned, but he's a bloody idiot as well.
It should have been blindingly obvious the moment he mentioned anything Islamic, whatever it was, some soft dick and his band of even softer dicks was going to try to exploit it all they could - and they did, and they won, but won a lot more than most people see.

Ahok's stupidity has legitimised the Frigging Pathetic Idiots and their lousy political opinion, and spawned a whole new movement where extremism is painted as acceptable, even desirable. One pilchard opened a set of shops named after mass idiocy - wonder where the cash for that lot came from.

Ahok was a top end tosser and should be locked up for at least another ten years, not because of the crime he was accused of, but for allowing the porn king and his idiot mates the chance to seem like they're actually useful on the planet.

But ironically by acting the way he has afterward, he also has shown the FPI leader (I forgot his name) to be a big hypocrite by running away and avoiding his own case and sentencing, plus of course any appeals or reviews rejected for Ahok by SC should then also (in theory!) be the same for the FPI guy, to show "fairness". Some of the Muslims might not like Ahok but throughout it all he has acted as a complete gentleman and been totally respectful to the court and "law" and accepted his sentence quietly and professionally, without making huge scenes and demonstrasi etc etc. IMHO

The fact he's a violent sex mad twat facing a variety of charges for his idiotic actions is nothing to do with it.
Now, lets move on, who is paying the hotel bills, who in the Saudi government is supporting him and, big one, is anyone in Indonesia funding him?
Last I saw, he was in a mid priced hotel in Saudi, very nice place and way beyond what most of his supporters could afford, but I have no idea if his girlfriend is with him, or if she's sending any porn to his WA.

I was thinking in broader terms; persons challenging the dominant culture, usually backed by powerful vested interests, usually do time in jail, especially persons with egalitarian motives.

Aung Sung Suu Kyi is looking more and more like just another tool, only of a different caste with its own vested interests.
