And of course the basis for those punishments is bogus. Those who crave power and its perks do what they can to sell and maintain their authority. Some use appeals to religion, some to patriotism, some brute force, etc. .

It was an interesting movement for sure, as was Rome's response. I had no Catholic upbringing but I've been fortunate to spend a lot of time in that part of France.

I suppose there's what should be a reasonable expectation that wearing a benign religious symbol won't elicit a violent or even negative response. Too many let their tribalism overrule their good sense.

It sounds like the Cathars are making a comeback.

Calling that art is a real stretch. Art's main purpose isn't to make money although it may. Maybe for the satisfaction of creating something beautiful. That's advertising much more than it's art, if it's art. Again it's advertising. I'm sure that what you think will let you meet God isn't...

I know my French colleagues better than you of course. London’s not in France any more, they moved 😉.

It’s been a while since I’ve noticed a labor rights demonstration in Indonesia but women were very well represented in those I have seen. Maybe the subject matters.

That's art? I guess a strip club is a ballet then. Does an activity making money make it worthwhile? It seems that you have yourself confused. The demonstrations were in Jakarta and about Jakarta, so participation of people from other provinces wouldn't be expected. You brought up financial...

We're discussing Indonesia though. Would the factors ne the same? I'm curious how you witnessed all those costume changes. How long were you a WC attendant and in which airports?

It's not wrong at all. I'm well aware of the conversations. Yes obvious signs of faith are not allowed there, except for the ones that are. The ability to overhear conversations (in English) from another continent and to correct them would be very extraordinary indeed.

I'll take that as a dodge of the questions. You should look up the law that says anyone who wants to wear one anytime anywhere may do so. It will be hard to find since it doesn't exist. An employer of a domestic servant has the upper hand in matters of employment terms. One that doesn't want...

You should look up the law there. Why doesn't who take legal action? Is what because of your imagined indoctrination? Your questions don't coherently follow my statement.

A lot of employers in Singapore don't want their maids to wear a veil.

Let's keep things in the realm of reality. Most all of us wouldn't have the opportunity to see such a thing were it to occur, and there aren't many Indonesian women who wear burkas to start with. I've been on a couple of hundred or more flights out of Indonesia and I've noticed a jilbab getting...

I think outside of a minority in a few urban centers, the big majority of Catholics and Protestants and a large share of other religions wouldn't accept thongs in public.

Good for her I guess but is she contributing to society or learning anything worthwhile by doing that? What do you think motivated those demonstrations against Ahok? Could it have been his favoritism to certain players? How much money do students in any boarding school make? Do the kids in...

My experience is similar. In Singapore it's pretty much completely up to the woman, and most choose to wear. In Indonesia it's mainly free choice but some families and areas are more conformist than others. Malaysia's a notch more conformist. In France I've heard women say that they'd prefer to...

Indonesia set to introduce strict new law banning sex outside of marriage

Haven't some cases be prosecuted in the last few years?

Yes, what about the boom boom? That's the big question. Everybody wants to know. With the new law having very limited application it looks like the boom boom will be effectively unaffected, so good news for all the boom boom afficianados out there.
