The Uyghur and China discussion thread

I took a serious look at Apple computers and tablets but I ended up dismissing the idea as they were overpriced for not especially good specifications. Add that I use the Google ecosystem, and it didn't make any sense to buy one. I don't use Windows most of the time as it's slow and bloated. I...

    No Kings Day!

I'm not into politics all that much so I didn't bother looking at the parade. After reading your post, I did a google search for pictures. The crowds look a little thin, so your "Pathetic" might well be accurate. "Popular" is not a word people seem to be using to describe it, but I did see...

The Uyghur and China discussion thread

I have to be honest here. The ipad idea is rubbish. A cheap Android A9+ will do everything schoolkids need, but at a fraction of the cost. As for the rest, the idea of educating kids instead of blowing them up seems to be, in general, a good idea.

The Uyghur and China discussion thread

There's a story about Indonesia buying Chinese J10 aircraft. I don't know much about military aviation, but I would guess the US is going to be unhappy if the reports are true.

The Uyghur and China discussion thread

I knew a local BBC journalist. Her starting salary on the 'bottom rung' was Rp.20 million/month. I don't really know how that compares to other fresh grads, but it may be of help with the discussion.

Stone the crows. How will this go down in Bali?

I don't know if I'm roughly normal or not, but I have no interest in porn at all. I find it boring in the extreme. I know all the moral arguments around it, but they don't come into my thoughts when I get offered dodgy DVDs, it's just a total lack of interest. On the other hand, a normally...

    Skype alternative.

My contacts moved to Teams, but they lost their names. The Skype cred is there, and the dial appears when you click on your avatar. I have not yet tried it.

    Earthquakes and nuclear power plants

Tsunamis are commonly caused by earthquakes. Indonesia has both, so the slight addition may be in order

    Trumponomics

That can't be right. I understand Trump is very familiar with McD

It's already happening, the US tariff on Indonesia is 32%, one of the highest one

Does that include the evil penguins he put tariffs on?

    Earthquakes and nuclear power plants

They weren't prepared - we can see that because the place was hit by a tsunami that contaminated pretty much everything. Perhaps 'moronic' was a shade harsh, so I will go with idiotic.

    Earthquakes and nuclear power plants

Yes. It was obviously a stupid idea to build in a place you know earthquakes and tsunamis are likely. If you are aware of three major tsunamis in the area, one just before WWII that generated 27m high waves, building it there was positively moronic.

    Trumponomics

That's been on the cards since Indonesia joined BRICS. It was just a matter of time.

Optician in South Jakarta (english speaking)

I didn't use English, and a few words in Indonesian were enough. The frames are easy - just pick up the ones you want. The eye test was on a machine that required no language skills at all. The test glasses (the things will all the lens swaps) just needed me to thumbs up or down Letters are...

Stone the crows. How will this go down in Bali?

I agree. A man who takes the time to explore a woman's vagina is likely to end up a better lover. That strikes me as win win.

    Earthquakes and nuclear power plants

In known earthquake zones, the Japanese answered that one a few years ago. The first question sould be, are the planned installations in 'safe' areas?

    What's up with forced Pulsa?

I understand they have an expiration date so may not be able to be activated. Also, a note to watch. My card was close to running out of its active period so I put some data on. I expected the active period to be pushed back, but it did not AND the data I added showed as valid until the end of...

    What's up with forced Pulsa?

Perhaps. I have 2 cards, one in a phone I use for work, the other in a tablet. I bought both at a 3 store as it was easier for me, and I get the excuse to have a coffee. Both use a small amount of data, but neither are used for calling except WA and Skype. That's what makes 3 such a good deal...

    What's up with forced Pulsa?

Just go to any 3 store. Make sure you ask for 'Always on". My Sumsung tablet is mostly used on WiFi, but the card is handy when I'm in a coffee shop or whatever. https://tri.co.id/unlimited-aon It's great for low users, but it's very easy to top up if you need more data or calling time. I'm never...
