Adding a single room AC to your house. Reliable unit/pricing?

After about 8 months, here‘s an update. The upstairs breaker does pop sometimes, when using the microwave. Often I’ll turn the AC off, but if the microwave is running for a minute or more, it’s at least a 50% chance it will trip the breaker. Mostly I keep the temp at 23-24c now. I’ll turn it...

    I want out...

Isn’t housing costs in the popular areas pretty expensive? I saw a “retire abroad” show last year, and thought the 3-4k monthly rental in popular cities a little steep for budget conscious people.

Retiring to Bali with my Harley

Unless you are Johnny Cash, and “doing it one piece a time”, you are highly unlikely to be able to import a used vehicle at a reasonable price.

    POS Indonesia

It’s always better to buy in the destination country if shipping is involved. Freight charges and dealing with customs always has a lot of nonsense involved.

    I want out...

You can find small cities here, but many have millions in the city and suburbs. Even my little town of Bandung has 5 million including the suburbs.

Discussion about expat salaries and perks as English teacher in Indonesia

I’m quite mobility challenged. Severe arthritis in my knees, horrible pain in my lower back if I’m sitting up for more than an hour. In Bandung, I end up mostly being in my bedroom upstairs. Just going up or down the stairs is a major ordeal. So I jokingly say I’m in prison upstairs for months...

Discussion about expat salaries and perks as English teacher in Indonesia

When we first moved to Bandung, before my FIL was disabled and before school for my daughter, we spent about 10-12 juta per month. Rent back then was 3-4 jt a month. No rent now, but lots of household expenses. We are probably close to your figure of 30 juta, with our 5 day a week maid, and...

Robert F Kennedy Jr, recently reported that he had some sort of worm that had eaten part of his brain. From eating undercooked pork. It certainly would explain some of his actions, in running for US president, and anti-vax theories.

    Indonesian version of Amazon/online stores

What are everyones favorite online stores, for western food items? Last month I was really craving green olives. I usually bring some stuffed large ones, stuffed with garlic or jalapeno. Unfortunately, these larger glass bottles only last me a week or less. I’ve tried the imported small...

Just bought the BYD and already dirty and scratched?

As a BYD shareholder, I’d certainly complain to corporate, or ask for a replacement car. Obviously the car was damaged before it got to you.

Butcher shop in Jakarta with extensive pork selection?

Went to Wakadu Jakarta today. Smallish store with only prepackaged stuff. Everything is frozen, but it had a decent selection. Prices in store lower than their Tokopedia store. My wife also bought some frozen smoked salmon. Not sure if that will taste ok when defrosted.

Butcher shop in Jakarta with extensive pork selection?

We are finishing up our summer vacation in Jakarta. I‘ve already finished up the 3 pound premium bacon that my wife brought back in May, while in Bandung. I recall there being some discussions of butchers shops in Jakarta with a nice pork selection. Not sure what’s around these days, after...
