Hello everyone,
In March this year I opened a business office in Yogyakarta while still living in Perth, Australia.
It is an international business, but I love the Indonesia culture which is why I set up there and plan to move there full-time in the next ~1.5 years.
Now that the things have stabilized in the office, I would like to begin to expand my network of friends and colleagues outside my staff and get to know the locals. Hence, if you are a local in then I would be glad to get in touch and hear about what living in Yogy is like for expats and Indonesians.

Thanks,
Mark

I have visited the city but my time there was limited, thus any comments I make should be checked for accuracy.
The city was busy but friendly. Apart from the big street near the train station that I can't properly remember the name of (Maryo something), the people appeared friendly and welcoming. On the big street it was all about money and getting you to visit places.
The place seemed pretty laid back. If I'm right, you will be fine.

John Indonesia was probably thinking of Jalan Malioboro. It is a tourist trap, you can walk up and down, eat some nice food and snacks, check it out. Once should be enough! I went to an interesting village just out of called Krebet in Bantul. It is a village that they paint Batik on wood. Very interesting to go there and watch the process. They paint the wax on masks, mirrors, bowls in various sizes, it is a slow tedious process that takes a steady hand! On the way there there are villages that focus on pottery, and ceramics. I used to go there and buy the Bowls in sets, and the mirrors, and resale them back in California as one of the items in my business inventory! Check it out if your interested? As for Yogya, I really didn't enjoy the town. No Beer at Warungs! So Good Luck, with meeting People and making new friends! 👍✌️🙏🥳

Thank you for the messages.
So is there not an expat community in Yogyakarta as I am more interested in meeting people living there that can help me navigate the city and culture?

I’m sure there are some expats there, but not like Bali, Bandung or Jakarta.

Hi Mark
I'm 53yo from Perth but been living in Bali since 2020. My partner (Javanese) and I have a 5 year plan to eventually set up in Yogja.

Will be interested to hear how you go in Yogja.
Cheers
