    US doctors living in Indonesia

Oops, my bad. You can tell I'm not in Indonesia any more.

    US doctors living in Indonesia

These ideas may be long shots, but: + Have you tried talking to SOS Medika? While foreign physicians are not allowed to practice in Indonesia, they are allowed to "consult" on staff. A few years ago, their consultant who I am pretty sure was American discussed my treatment plan with me even...

    Missing Submarine

Oh, that's tragic. Even without knowing what happened, it seems like a particularly hideous way to go.

Bringing fresh eggs to Indonesia (Jakarta)

Do Grain-Fed Chickens Lay Gluten-Free Eggs? You may be curious about chickens fed with gluten-containing grains and the eggs they lay. Although it seems to make sense that grain-fed chickens will produce gluten-containing eggs, there's no evidence to prove this, according to Shena Jaramillo, RD...

Bringing fresh eggs to Indonesia (Jakarta)

I'm sure you can find citations for anything if you search the dubious corners of the internet, but reputable sites seem to indicate that eggs are gluten free no matter what the chicken ate (livestrong is a pretty good source as far as I know, regardless of what a disappointment Lance Armstrong...

    Do you like Indonesian movies?

I just watched Impetigore, directed by Joko Anwar, because the Asia Society streamed it for free. It had very well done English subtitles, which is a good thing because I only understood about 10 percent of what I was hearing. It ended up being pretty good, but I'm a little surprised the Asia...

    American helping Indonesian

Valerian, whatever eventually happens with this situation, I hope you'll continue to pose questions and share information with us. You sound well meaning, and much of what you say in post #14 does sound plausible. With luck we can live up to your initial description of us as a "welcoming and...

    What is it?

It's the cocoon of a case bearer moth, I believe. I first encountered them stuck to the walls in my house in Micronesia; I had no clue what they were at first. Some images here. The scientific name is "Tinea pellionella."

Twitter Wars: Bali vs. Kristen Gray

I don't follow ANY twitter. If I was going to pay any attention at all, though, I am sure Expat Indo would be on my list. What's really weird, though, is that I have zero memory of this thread. I must have sleep-posted.

    How to obtain Indonesian Citizenship

Is it okay if that makes me laugh a little, even though I am feeling a tremendous amount of sympathy for you?

    What's up with renting here?

It used to be much worse, at least for the Jakarta expat market. Between 1993 and 2016, I moved among six addresses in Menteng, Kebayoran Baru, Pondok Indah, and Pejaten Barat. I don't know that I've seen it all, but I've seen an awful lot. There were times when landlords were asking for five...

    I need translation to english

Hah hah - apparently I can't tell the difference ::rofl:: Matar nuwun (about the only Javanese I know, and I don't even know what level that is).

    I need translation to english

You are the only one who can provide context ... we here on the internet know nothing about the situation. Was it a text message sent on a digital device, like a WA text on a phone? Who was message from/to? Were there photos involved? What is the relationship between the sender and the receiver...

    I need translation to english

Not sure how much I can help, but I won't let that stop me. I have two kinds of comments: linguistic comments, such as I can provide given my less-than-amazing translating skills, and busybody comments, which I'm super good at. Here goes: LINGUISTIC: that looks like a Javanese speaker wrote it...
