Credit card for foreigner

Yeah but the question is how many of those thousands in all these newer developments do not have a mortgage?

The median salary in Indonesia is 11,400,000 IDR (788 USD)"
So half of the working people only get around 800 USdollars per year, it would be interesting to know what the average debt (mortgage, bank loans, credit, ..) per person is here in Indonesia.

The median salary in Indonesia is 11.400.000 Rp but in the parallel universe. What a BS.

In reality, it is near the minimum wage.

I thought Indonesian salaries are almost always quoted in per month rather than per year amounts. Plus, each year has 13 months because... reasons.

Salary anywhere in the world is likely to be paid monthly. But for statistical purposes it is expressed in annual term, to include those who do not have regular monthly salary. The 13 month income is actually not a salary, but it is an allowance, gratuity. But there is already a regulation about it but it might not apply for everyone especially labours who might need keep changing employers frequently.

According to the buro of Statistics the average salary in Indonesia is around Rp. 2.756.345,- per month. Not sure how they calculated that, because in every province it's different.

According to Wikipedia, Indonesia has a total debt of $344,4 miljard (31 December 2017). That's only 30,3% of the GDP, which is very low. Holland has around 49 % of GDP (451 miljard euro).

Yet the rupiah is still weak. Many factors contribute to the weakness of the rupiah, I think, e.g. corruption (no investors want to invest here), a government that is not reliable (see: Under-20 World Cup), a lot of import (which has to be paid in dollars, so demand of dollars is higher than rupiah), etc.

The debt figure for 2022 was $531.92bn (40% of GDP) which is still very low compared to other countries.

IDR is weakening against major currencies
For those who have accounts / cards such as WISE or fee free debitcard for foreign withdrawal it is probably a good moment to exchange / to make withdrawal for the money that is intended to be spent in IDR anyway (not intended for currency trading)

Waiting for the Rupiah to weaken more ...
I wish we had a crystal ball. Supposed it was for currency trading we would all become a multi millionaire
What happen if from this moment instead of keep going up, it keeps going down ??
There is what is the so called DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging) vs Lump sum investing (LSI). It is typically used in swing trading stocks but it could also be used in currency trading. Both have advantages and disadvantage. But for those who own a crystal, so could see what will happen in the future, LSI will always win.

Yes, a crystal ball would be nice. Better than analysing macro-economic figures, like interest rate, inflation, .. my prediction based on these figures .. the rupiah will weaken more, simply because supply and demand of dollars dictate this.
And because Indonesia import a lot and has to pay for this in dollars, while on the other hand there is a high demand of dollars, the economie will weaken, e.g. higher inflation. But .. you never be sure.

We're actually (mostly) getting out of the US$ (and the HK$ which is pegged to the US$). I don't see the US$ being strong in the long run, especially considering Indonesian-Sino trade. My guess is that local currency (rupiah-yuan) payments will increase.

Just my guess.

USD performed very well during the fourth quarter of 2022 against other major currencies; so not just IDR. This was due to a strong economy, strong job market, one of lowest unemployment rate in the history. As usual in the stock market, currency market, during the run, there will be an overshoot followed by correction. It is now in the correction territory. So imo it is unlikely they would be having exchange rate like it was in the 4th quarter of 2022. The exchange rate of major currencies such as EUR, GBP, CHF against IDR is now better, due to the weakening of IDR, less likely due to the otherway around, eg strengthening of major currencies. This is just a personal opion and certainly I do not have a crystal ball.

That is what I am saying .. the Rupiah is weakening due to import paying in dollars (while supply is tight) causing more inflation in Indonesia ... I am still waiting for the rupiah weakening more ...

Hmm, don’t see it happening. The EUR above 17? The USD above 16?
