Moving to Indonesia as foreign employed “contractor”

Most of the DNs in bali live off trust funds and pretend to be successful life coaches or crypto currency experts with their 500 doge coin in HOOD.

Probably a good percentage that are self sufficient earning between 20-30jt / month breaking even. Influencers, Online teaching, managing social media accounts or stripping on OnlyFans.

The top 2% DNs in Bali would be on 100Jt+ easily. instagram endorsements, youtube adds and affiliate links generate a decent, multi source income.

Okay, I'll keep an open mind. Can you name any vloggers, live streamers, and general content creators who are rich? One who has a vlog as a primary source of income? Celebrities don't count, since they have the added bonus of millions of followers. A star like Rihanna for example, can launch a makeup and will make money, hands over fist. Her brand has a worldwide following.

I don't see it from most of these vloggers. As a matter of fact, a lot of them talk about having a day job. Unless you know something I don't :)
The SV Delos on You Tube 734k subscribers- they are quite open about what they need each month to keep the boat maintenance up & them travelling.
WalterGeoffrey The Frenchie (only 159k subscribers on YT, but has 778k on IG)- Amber his 'owner' is now his full time employee managing his social media & merchandise etc, she seems to do alright- seems she likes her designer bags & her BMW/Mercedes vehicles.

The Kneady Homesteader is quite an interesting (and tragic) story.
Back in Feb I think she, her husband & children were out & a drunk driver hit their car killing her husband instantly, she & their 2 young children were very seriously hurt. She was hospitalized for weeks/months.
YouTubers gave support financially (& by adding content to her site to keep it active and earning for her) as she had 2 broken arms 2 broken legs & other severe injuries, she was unable to make/post content.
The gofund me set up to help her generated over 600k usd.

A digital nomad is a traveler who supplements their income by creating content online, getting money from their subscribers or followers.

That's only one niche of "Digital Nomads", it really means any job which can be done from any location with an internet connection. Other common jobs are computer programmers of various sorts or Amazon drop shipper businesses.

This is one YouTuber I follow: BenTeachesEnglishOverseas who has done well enough to also get into property management and also other investments.

I will agree with you that not all of the digital nomads are making or will make the big bucks chasing the dream. It reminds me of MLM where some will do well and others won't. Like MLM, what the digital nomad offers/markets is key.

Anybody in I.T., or writing code for a job can do that on line from everywhere, working for his home country company
Same for some editorialists, news writers, traders in stocks or commodities, and plenty others.
Real jobs, not showing off some waterfall or ricefield.

Just look at the frenezy in the West about "work from home" !

The problems kick in when it comes to taxes & visas.

@Bad_azz SV Delos seem to be an exception to the rule. I doubt they bought a yacht with the intention of documenting and posting their seafaring adventures. They were already wealthy. Any money they make from being DN's is incidental to the wealth they already accumulated.

Some schmuck in Ubud with a yoga mat and a Canon camera is not getting rich. Let's say he has 10,000 subscribers, now that's a good amount of followers. A few hundred a month from his Patreon members won't get him very far. He does after all have to put that money back into buying more Lululemon stretchy pants :ROFLMAO:

Mark Wiens with Migrationology and Trevor from Food Ranger would probably fit the description 'rich'. Both of them are frequent travelers and have millions of subscribers. Mark Wiens has mostly been stuck in Thailand during the pandemic but managed to fly to the US a few months back and is now operating there. Mark has a mixed heritage background (American and Chinese) and is based out of Bangkok where he lives with his family. I believe Trevor lives in China. Both have some pretty good videos from a few years back in Indonesia, poor Trevor making sambal in a pasar in Bukitinggi is pretty fun, bless him.

Comparing their channels on Social Blade is quite interesting (see: https://socialblade.com/youtube/compare/mark wiens/the food ranger). Mark Wiens has approximately 1.8 billion views since 2009 and Trevor is almost at 800 million from 2013. I imagine that the advertising revenue makes them very affluent using this as their primary income. I would imagine that both of them started out as digital nomads.
Oh, they're out there. Admittedly, I follow the newbies so that's probably why it's hard for me to see the DN's who make a living from it.

Anyone notice the OP hasn't responded or posted anything recently?

Damn people here are rude.

anyeays thanks to everyone that gave me a constructive reply, I appreciate it.

We did go a bit too far, perhaps. Long-haul expats have a certain set of experiences (not homogenous, but often similar) that... I can't really explain it except to say that a lot of us raise an eyebrow at the same things, as regards new immigrants to this country from the West.

I saw a lot of the same when I hung out with long timers in China and I was the new immigrant. "You thing you are going to what...? Because you think that people here...? Really? How long have you been here? Hmmm. (Turns and talks to the other old people while I drink my beer, wondering how wrong I am)"

Another point of note- too long in Bandung makes us forget that K, it frequently gets replaced with a G

My autocorrect is for shit... Half the time the keyboard is set to BI and I look back at my typing to see some random bollocks about Agus lagi mandi.

Apparently Jakarta is spelt with a "D"
I'm surprised a DJ hasn't taken the stage name of DJ Akarta. Then again, they're not known to have cool names. Yazz Illi, Gong, Izo, Milinka Radisik doesn't really roll off the tongue. But hey, what do I know? They seem to get plenty of gigs :noidea:

Its true. But also you must admit your posts have not exactly given a good impression. The US dollar and loaded thing especially.
To be honest this bit was what irked me:
"allow me to afford a stay at home wife because I am a Muslim"

Women are people too- humans, with thoughts & brains and much more in their lives than sitting in a house waiting to serve their bloke who perceives himself to be the lord & master- just because he has a d*ck &a bit more testosterone.
The difference between stereotype notions & actual real life may shock some when faced with it.
