Where are you from? - Lets see where are most of our forum members coming.

I'll be one of the Indonesian too ;)
Born and spend my first 5 years in Japan, then grow up mostly in Indonesia (Yogyakarta) until high school and start travelling the world for further study.
Reside in Melbourne at the moment, but spent time in Indonesia for couple of time for some jobs here and there.

Welcome roti bakar! Where would you like to settle in the long term (or do you hope to keep moving around from country to country)?

Long term, I think we will be back to Indonesia or SEA where it's warm, humid, cheap and easy to get lots of delicious food, but the hubby is currently studying here so I have to slave myself.
Still love moving around from country to country but I think I'm getting old and can't handle packing as good as I used to.

You sound a lot like me. I grew up in a lot of cold places (high school and college in and around Boston) but once I got a taste of tropical weather I knew I would never voluntarily return to a cold climate. (We have already made our plans to retire to Hawaii.)

Packing and moving does get more tiresome as you get older, but you might surprise yourself. If you are accustomed to moving every few years, staying in one place too long can make you look forward to the next new location, even if the move itself is exhausting. (I should know - I have moved 12 times since I was 20, and 7 of those moves were international.)

Born in Dundee, Scotland 3 June 1937 (am I the oldest member?). Left to join the RAF as an Aircraft Apprentice at age 15 and, because my father dragged the rest of the family to London to find work, never returned to live in Scotland.

22 years in the RAF (converted to aircrew officer) meant living all over UK but mainly on bases near Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Norfolk and Isle of Wight. Was a member of a squadron that bombed Cairo (sorry Puspa) when the Egyptians (Nasser) nationalized the Suez canal...very stupid as, when returned to UK, I was shipped to Singapore (S.S. Oxfordshire) and had to go around South Africa.

3 years in Malaya at RAF Butterworth (Penang), and Singapore 2x3 years (Tengah, Seletar, Changi)...one tour during Confrontasi where I was shot down by Indonesians near to Kuching...managed to land unscathed but the aircraft (Hastings) not so lucky.....full of holes.

Left the RAF in 1974 to join an airline and lived in Hong Kong (16 years)...married an Indonesian Flight Attendant (talk about sleeping with the enemy) and retired age 55. Immigrated to Vancouver, Canada and became a Canuck fan and citizen....cannot remember which came first. Bought a boat...well most of you can guess what a having a boat entails!

We visited Jakarta often to see ailing mother in law and big family so decided to buy an apartment in Permata Hijau...subsequently moved to Bali so wifey commutes often (DPS-JKT-DPS...an Air Asia Big-Shot) and I sit on the Seminyak beach drinking beer/wine....watching the sunsets....and contemplating 'who to annoy next!'

I think so :)
I have got an additional portable heater under my office desk :)
As much as I love winter clothes, I do prefer warmer weather.

It's amazing how much stuff you can have in a year, especially with kid and a hubby who likes collecting items :(
Staying in one place too long does make me feel the itch of moving. I guess I still have the opportunity to move with my work so it's not that bad.
Been moving 13 times since when I was a kid and only 5 were international....so not that bad

Ah the the Oxfordshire, remember it well, I'm afraid we didn't get on too well with the ships RSM, , I got prickly heat by the time we got to Singapore from Hong Kong, so I went sick, I couldn't believe it over 900 troops and nobody went sick, so the Colnel and I would sit and chat every morning till we reached Gibralter, I was supposed to be in charge of some soldiers cleaning up one of the bars, cushy job, but the RSM had been looking for me, gave me a good bollocking when we eventually met, not to keen on us RAFY Chappies

My goodness, you certainly don't act your age.

In that this is a relatively new forum, you may very well be the oldest member, older than me, anyway.

Originally from Battersea in South London - lived and worked in over 15 countries, travelled around a lot more - Indonesia has been home for over 20 years now.

Hey Davita, happy to see you back, I was already wondering why it took so long for you to find this new forum. :clap2:
I think you are indeed the oldest of this new forum I might be in the top 5 of the oldest (born 1950)?

March 1938, 2nd oldest?, surprised I'm still kicking considering all the mishaps

No offense intended Nasigan but you are almost a toddler compared to some of our venerable members. I have just checked, you just make it to the top 10 by only a few days. I predict that with the new batch of emails we are about to send you will soon only be in the top 20. Sorry, you're too young.

Haha, no problem, and indeed I feel young, soon we can open a special expat forum for the plus 65... :wof:

hahaha Waarmy....you quoted me but missed the bit...quote "and I sit on the Seminyak beach drinking beer/wine" unquote...that's where the stamina, energy, precocious humour and Joie de Vivre comes from......getting drunk!!!

We share the same Birthdate although 31 years apart

Scoot.....happy belated 48th birthday. That was about the age I stopped colouring my hair from grey to dark brown...waste of money and effort. IMO. I suggest you think about doing the same...in case of :rain:

Welcome to the forum, D. We've bought the domain name expatindo.org on July 12th if I am not wrong and it took only two days to Master Dafluff and Master El_Goretto to set it as a viable platform for the community, without bugs and inefficient admins. On July 14th, the Bastille Day, we opened it for our expats and Indonesian friends.

From what I know Scoot don't have that much to put color on!
