What's your take on what's happening & what do you think the consequences will be - if any?

Do we need to be worried that some other country will try to splat NK?

I'm sure Japan must be feeling a bit pissed off with some of the missiles landing in their waters...

Sabre rattling, as I see it. Within the next couple of days Pyongyang will announce some new missile capability or improvement and demand sanctions to be removed or aid be given in some way shape or form.

Thankfully Japan and South Korea don't have a Trump at the helm or many innocent North Koreans would be killed as the country is turned into a car park.

Haven't they been shooting missles into the sea of Japan for 10 years or so? I doubt anything specific will come of it, but I do think they are in their last 10 years (5, optimistically) before a collapse or other drastic change. China's changing position will be important, but they also have no desire to deal with the millions of refugees that will want to cross their border.

I don't think China will put up with this nonsense for too long, but with all the top people Kim's bumping off I also wonder if perhaps there will be a coup, and if there is what diffence it would make, you have to wonder at the adulation Kim gets ,but then again if you fall asleep at a meeting it can be quite terminal

I think king pin is also afraid of a coup d'état. Which would explain him going rampage killing whoever could replace him, like his half brother his just have kill in malaysia.

All those missile testing and constant provocation/menace can only end up bad, very bad.

The only way I could see this situation coming to an end is to china letting a coup d'état from the south and letting them get reunite again...
But the South korea have their own political problem to deal with first with the recent destitution of their president.

just saw on TV the mass celebration in NK of the firing of the four missiles, it's quite amazing how NK can russle up this mass of people, really weird, 1000s of people all clapping, I wonder if they know what they are clapping for

China would never agree to that. That would put the West on their boarders not to mention a mad dash into China by the newly formed N. Korea refugees.

They are clapping because they were told to, if not then face the anti aircraft persuader. I would clap.

Well, I'm glad there has been no explosive response to NK yet.
& yes, I agree that it is has the potential go get very nasty.
My fear is that NK will keep on crying wolf & one day the wolf will be there , when all other countries have succumbed to ignoring or ridiculing it.

-China is surrounded by the west.

-South Korea now has to deal with millions of people who will need medical, education, etc... which is going to cost billions if not trillions.

Yes I read that somewhere, so basically whatever the illustrious mr Kim says nobody wants his country, as basically nobody can afford to put it right as it's so screwed up

Correct...courtesy of the Marshall Plan...would be interesting if North Korea imploded if there would be a similar Trump Plan.

It would take a lot of work for multiple countries to help a united Korea.

Plus we have only really seen snap shots of North Korea and have heard stories. So things could be worse that what we have seen/heard.

If it wasn't for the American Marshal plan I think would still be scratching about looking for something to eat and some tools to make something, a very generous plan and saved Europe from disaster

I was thinking more in terms of the reintegration of East & West Germany after the end of the cold war, but the reconstruction after WWII is another example of the resilience of nations, as well.

When I go to visit my brother in Hamburg, it never ceases to amaze me how it's all been rebuilt and as if nothing happened, when the Berlin Wall fell everybody was concerned about what would happen, but again it doesn't seem as there every was an east and west Germany, China is fearful that the north would become like the south, the south was a mess after the Korean War, but again with American help and the resilience of the people it is a thriving nation, bit of a hiccup with their president, or should I say ex president

China and north korea...
Half of all international aid of China goes to North Korea
China don't gain that much from North Korea, Nothing they would lose if the country unify with south... they would only have to give less aid

South Korea is already a large trade companion of China, It's third and china is the biggest of South Korea.
China would have very little to lose economically if both Korea reunite.

Pollitically, China goes more and more far away of N-K in this last year.
The N-K dictatorship is falling apart, more and more dissidence (mainly from diplomate, the only one allowed to leave the country). Also it is said to have more and more dissidence from the inside. The "new king" don't seem to have the same aura over it's population than it's father. Which explain why he is going nut over firing test missile (accompanied with menace) and assassination of who ever could take his place on the throne, like is half brother in Malaysia.

North Korea kingdom is falling apart!

The only concern of China is a flood of refugee... which can easily avoid by preparing a "coup d'état" AND the transition to the unification.
This would be a win-win for everyone except for Kim Jong-un and his general.
