Credit card for foreigner

How have you found Permata to be overall? I've been considering giving them a go as I've heard they are much more lenient and easy to deal with. Helps there is an ATM right up the road from where I live too.

I have banked with them for 9 years now, I have a "premiere" account so never have to wait in line, private rooms with coffee and juice for transactions, but even if you don't have a premiere account, they advertise no longer than an 8 minute wait and they seem to do a good job of getting people in and out at the teller stations quickly. I can't understand everyone who banks at BCA as every teller and ATM seems to have a long line.

I've been with CIMB Niaga the longest and they've always been quite good. Still haven't been able to secure a credit card though. I'm going to make some time to visit Permata and see what they have to say. Thanks for the information.

Reading your experience in the other post, I'd have been pissed off as well. I hate it when no one will take responsibility, better if they just say the system is down, please come back tomorrow. It is kind of like taking the old Adam Air flights, where they told you the plan would be delayed for 10-15 mintues over and over again for two or three hours thinking it would lessen the blow, no coffee or juice there either.

Another decent bank is BTPN, they don't even have tellers. You check in then sit in a lounge with coffee or water until someone helps you in a private office. You get this service even with only a 10 or 20 juta in an account. They do have less services as they are primarily a commercial bank.

It can't be otherwise Vanuatu, BCA, as it is jokingly known, stands for Bank Capek Antri.

Don't forget that if you live here, you don't have a lot of possibilities for debit cards; go to a supermarket or bakery or Mangga Dua or resto or LTC or the Expo and you see they have BCA and Mandiri as payment terminals. Credit cards is a different story of course (VISA or MC).

And also very important; if you transfer money to someone's account at a different bank, you pay more. And what does everybody have? Right.

Yes, necessity dictates the holding of an account at one of the major mega-banks, mostly for internet banking, especially fund transfers. Of BCA and Mandiri, the lesser of two evils for us is Mandiri.

Yeah I've heard that before, but I am actually very pleased with the service BCA gives me. I do not have a premium account or anything yet I rarely have to wait at all at any of the branches I go to; the big one at Puri Indah or the small one near my place in Pluit.

I was also going to post, that my wife has a regular BCA account for paying bills and I have never seen her have to line up in Central Park Mall or now in BSD City.

I think the situation at the BCA ATM's have improved a lot the last couple of years. The tellers can still be chaotic though.

One of the nice things about the Permata premier ATM is that you can use any companies ATM machine without service charge which was very helpful as their is not always a Permata ATM around.

Will it work with the shops' terminals too?

I normally used a regualr CC at shops so I'm not sure if the ATM works as freely with other banks machines, but as it has a visa logo I would think it would work.

.
Ah yes, I forgot. It's a debit card with VISA.

So the shops etc. swipe in in their CC terminals but it will deduct instantly from the account.

So I need to buy building materials and what not and the local building superstore will give 10% off with a BNi card.

Is it easy to get a card for a foreign with KITAS?

Hi! I'm a KITAS holder and I have two credit cards here: one from BCA and the other from HSBC. I wasn't approved the first time I applied for the BCA card, but I was approved the second time. I had to wait three months before applying again. I was approved the first time right away for HSBC and it only took a couple of weeks to get my credit cards after applying. You just need to make sure you can show them evidence of the money that you make and give them reliable numbers to call (like the HR people at your job, which is who I listed...or even a friend, which I also listed). Also, I had to give them a letter from my HR department stating how long I'd been working with them, my salary, my position and my current address. If you fill out the application forms thoroughly and provide all the necessary paperwork, it's definitely possible. Best of luck!

If you have a KITAP and are willing to put some money in a deposit, you can get a CC in every bank. Just put 15 jt in a one year deposit ;)

If you do that, you transform your credit card in fact into a debit card.

Nothing wrong with a debit master card as long you can use it everywhere like any ordinary "credit" card. Prefer debit anyway when you have enough balance.
