Tanjung Balai is the city where earlier this year, a request to lower a mosque's loudspeaker was retaliated by burning 7 temples to the ground.

Now city officials have lowered a Buddha statue within a Buddhist temple because it offended the majority mob. "Religious tolerance" in most of Indonesia really is just a thin veneer.

It has also been reported that much of the intolerance is coming directly from the city administrators using the excuse that if they don't fix the problems more riots like that had a few months ago will take place. No talk of settling the problems openly or working with the Buddhist community what so ever.

this is why there is no point to refute these people's argument, whether it is about foreign languages, 'toleransi', or anything else. they have their own warped thinking, logic is not applicable.
