This article discusses demographics here in Indonesia. Perhaps it could also be posted in the 'Education' section :unsure:

The clock is ticking. Indonesia’s demographic dividend will not last indefinitely. By the 2040s, its population will begin to age more rapidly, and the window for labour-driven growth will close. The country’s long-term prosperity will depend on whether it can transform its demographic advantage into a productivity advantage.

There is absolutely no chance that Indonesia will take advantage of its demographic dividend. The quality of education here is so bad that it is almost unbelievable. It will make money by selling commodities and that is about it.

Even if the desire and resources to make such a switch exists, I don't think that there's enough time to complete such a transition from 'cheap labour' to higher value labour.

The suggestion that regional organizations could assist in such a project seems like fantasy; ASEAN could probably form a committee which could then issue a report which could suggest further committees which could then issue more reports and then make a statement about the need for a committee.

One point from the article is contradictory:
There are also underutilized sources of labor supply. Female labor force participation in Indonesia remains relatively low at around 53%. Increasing women’s participation could provide a significant boost to economic growth, much as it has in other Asian economies.

Is it not the case that introducing MORE workers into the labour pool would exacerbate the problem(s)? Not to mention the fact that it would have deleterious effects on families (and by extension on society) as caregivers move out of the home into the workplace...

Not an easy fix.
