Title : Here’s why we don’t care about our health , Nov 2017
By Jim Schroeder, PhD Physician (Pediatric Psychologist)

... We, as a society, might act as though clarity of mind and soundness of body are of utmost importance, but our practices and habits repeatedly echo otherwise ...

there are a few core reasons why people’s habits directly contradict what they know is good for them. First, a healthy lifestyle requires a certain level of discipline, which includes both strenuous actions and regular abstaining, that is frankly not appealing to some people. Part of the reason it is not appealing is that they perceive that it only adds to the stress and hardships of their days (even if evidence suggests that in the long-term, it might do the opposite)...

For if we go deeper, one of the true reasons that we reject our own health and well-being is that we don’t trust that the process will actually lead us to a happier, more satisfying place ...

Mysterious changes geared toward health that take time seem like quite a risky proposition when we just want to feel good now ...

Opportunities abound to both feel good and be healthy, but we must first consider what is really important in our lives ...

Title : The Real Reason Why So Many of Us Refuse to Get Health
By Lauren Handel Zander (Co-Founder and Chairwoman of Handel Group , a consulting and life coaching company)

... I want to address a subject that is possibly the most important concern (or should be) for me, my family and my community: the state of your body during your time on earth (and how your bad habits might be holding you back)...

Dr. Mark Hyman's (a nine-time No. 1 New York Times best-selling author) ... message carries gravitas: We are currently suffering at the hands of a food system that does not serve us, and every aspect of our lives is affected when we neglect our bodies and harm our health.

That’s a scary truth, and one that many people have yet to come to grips with. Day in and day out, we make bad food choices, avoid exercise, get coffee’d up in the morning, have a drink to relax at night, stress out about minor things and run our bodies into the ground—until we get sick and wonder why.

Why?
Because your health is the thing that changes everything else.
It always amazes me how clueless even the smartest person can be about this basic human need. I have clients—high-level business men who manage millions of dollars every day—who literally don’t know what to eat for breakfast, and their business suffers as a result of their fatigue ...

For me, nothing is more inspiring than witnessing new clients take on their health and change their whole life through it. When I see people—especially those who have never really learned how to take care of their health—really confront the underlying issues of their health and make big lifestyle changes to address them, it’s almost as if they’re not the same people anymore. They’ve evolved, changed states; their perspective is different. They have different goals and dreams. They have a new life.

What’s getting in the way?
There’s an air of cynicism a lot of people give off when they talk about their relationship with their bodies or their health. With a collective sigh, I hear people shrug off simple advice by claiming, “It sounds unrealistic. I could never do it. Do you even know how busy I am?” ...

The narrative I hear so often about people’s health is riddled with long historical explanations of things both within and beyond their control—but the overall vision of their health is something that “just is.” As in, “There’s nothing I can do.”

People walk around like they don’t have power over their body. Granted, there are instances you don’t: hereditary illnesses, accidents, circumstances. (And in these cases, it’s crucial that you act in accordance with your needs!) But for a large part, when it comes to your personal health, there are instances you do have power over: your food choices, your exercise habits, your sleeping patterns, your daily rituals. And maximizing those areas in your life will ignite other areas to follow suit. Believe it and watch it happen.

It’s never too late. It’s never not shocking. And it’s never not inspirational.
We all know people who are walking success stories of a major health change. And although they’ll tell you it was the best decision they ever made for themselves, they’ll all agree that it was also the biggest challenge they faced. Why?

There’s an inner brat running your diet. There’s a “weather reporter” telling you that “healthy” is too expensive and complicated. There’s an inner “chicken” who’s afraid to fail again, afraid to go to the gym, afraid to face the facts—that it’s all on you, baby!

Breaking habits—especially ones as socially, emotionally and physiologically ingrained in us as food and diet—often takes a fair amount kicking and screaming to get the point across. When I talk clients through this process, I swear they sound like a kid throwing a tantrum. “I don’t wanna!” “It’s too hard!” “It sounds scary!” But I don’t give into that temper tantrum, and I don’t give up, so neither do they. It’s “too hard” up until the moment you step onto the scale and see real results, or you wake up one day without chronic pain, or when an illness that was impacting the quality of your life suddenly disappears and you’re free!

That’s what keeping a health promise brings you.
Is it time for you to make a promise to yourself? Can you relate to the examples of negative inner dialogues I mentioned? As a test, pay close attention to your inner dialogue next time you find yourself going for that fourth glass of wine at dinner, or ordering cake for dessert, or skipping lunch at work, or whatever it is that you secretly, subconsciously know you’re guilty of when it comes to caring for your health. What you hear yourself saying to yourself might give you a big wake-up call.

Whatever you do, don’t give up on your health. Enlighten yourself to the power you have over your body and food choices. I swear pride tastes better.

Eating healthy with a large variety of dishes is a must.

Why We Don’t Care About Our Health

Probably for the same reason many people don't maintain their vehicles.

It is just a mind set.

As a mechanic, I always very well of my cars.
More than of my body .....
That's a good idea. I think maybe the reason people don't care about their bodies now, is because the life we have to live now, does not have a very promising future. It gets more expensive daily. The roads are overcrowded, our children think we are Stupid. The Governments are only a bunch of Rich people, that only care about themselves and their Cronies. You can't swim in the Rivers, Oceans, or walk on a clean beach, because they are all full of Plastic! Humans have polluted the Air, Water, Land, with so much Petrochemicals that all the Food is full of Plastic, and Toxic.
We are constantly being told to be Afraid of God, and each Other! AI is going to take over all Work! Should I go On? The Religions only separate Us, and tell Us to Hate each Other! That Guy Mahatmir, was lucky. He got to live in a World, when being Alive meant something. Him being in the Government, makes me think he did many things, not good for the Common People! That expression- If food still smells nice, or taste nice, you should stop eating, really doesn't make sense. That is what a Chef has to do, every time, they prepare a meal! Moderation is the Key. So Party until you drop! 🫵🥳🤪💃🕺

One major element with health issues not mentioned much here is the pernicious nature of the profit driven pharmaceutical and food industries with over laden sugar, salt and chemical additives put into factory made commercial products. Billions of dollars spent on TV advertising aimed at children and parents to suggest the way to a really great, exciting life and happy family is to open this packet of instant food, lollies, sweets and icecreams. And at the first little niggle from your body from eating all this crap, open another packet of outrageously priced pills to get instant relief.

Or other option, educate your kids to eat proper food !

I have been watching Youtube here in Bali, and it drives me Crazy! It is all so Childish, with bright flashing colors, and all a bunch of Korean kids bouncing around like Thirteen year olds! As for Food, it is Pop Mei, Top Ramen, Kecap Manis! Non stop ads about Air fresheners, and Killing Mosquitoes! I did see a Condom ad with the Woman licking her lips, So Sexy! This Indonesian Youtube is So Flooded with Boring Ads, I had to Pay for NetFlix, just to get away seeing such Childish crap!
It seems like Indonesian People don't want Grow Up? 🤪😵‍💫

I totally agree .

I think the food & beverage (and some pharmaceutical) industries use the same strategy of businesses like : gambling , tobacco , advertising , social media , illegal drugs , sports , ... Strategy of targeting human being's flaws . We get addicted to even cheap wheat only + additives to make it to taste nice . And they make it "instant", so we lazy humans can quickly satisfy our hunger .

And after eating a lot of all these bad industrialized food and get fat , some people will just take pills to lose weight .

The governments also have to be blamed for not putting limits to that and not educating the people about that .

Even medical universities , at least in my country , they don't teach the future doctors about diseases prevention (well , less sick people will result in less clients) .

I recall that in Australia, Tony Abbot a conservative Minister for Health (later Prime Minister)
was pushed to regulate avertising directed at children and his response was that it wasn't for the government to intervene between parents and their children. Lobbying backed by funding for political parties has governments reluctant to impose regulations on the food industry. Requirements for companies to list additives on packaged food or dinks sees the information reduced to such a tiny size that you need a magnifying glass to read it.

This is such a hilarious and Sad topic at the same time. Because of lobbying, food producers can get away with anything. Just look at buying a fruit juice now. For instance say you want a Mango Juice, the label on the bottle says Mango drink. Well get out your microscope and see what is actually in the drink. 1st, Sugar, water glucose,, Yellow, Red Dye #9,7 etc, preservatives, corn syrup, then finally at the end, 10% concentrated mango puree.
How is this allowed to be called Mango juice? it's no wonder everyone becomes sick, and Diabetic, with High Blood Pressure. Look at the ads on Television? Sugar, Sugar, MSG! In everything! Promoted by little Korean Girls bouncing around in Short skirts or Crazy Indonesian Mothers in Pajamas shouting at the Screen! Or Nice Mothers Spraying the Room With Toxic, Deadly chemicals to Kill Mosquitoes, directly with the Kids looking and Smiling! This is not what real food is about. The Government is supposed to be Of the People, For the People, and By the People. Not the Military, Big Pharma, Or Religions!

Why not get out and go for a swim or a hike, or at least watch something worthwhile like Monty Python?

Thanks for the suggestions! I do get out and work in my Garden. And this year, it's been a very rainy, Dry Season! I've had some Health issues, so I'm not the same dynamic Superman I once Was! I like to watch Youtube for the Documentaries, and Fishing, Camping, Cooking, or People traveling all over the Globe. But because Youtube is a free program, they have to rely on advertising. So they promote products in a manner that People here like to see. Bright lights and colors. Pretty silly, bouncy, Korean girls, Women spraying Poison throughout the Room, while her Smiling children breath it in. Raging Indonesian housewives with rollers in their hair, Macho young Men promoting deodorant, full of Aluminum, Pop Mei, Indo Mei, Yucky, cheap quality imitation,Soy Sauce, full of Sugar! Stella air freshener, all shown in a silly, I'll never grow up mind set. Because that's the general attitude here. Once I saw a Woman wearing a Hijab promoting hair conditioner, with No Hair showing, but her scarf bouncing around, HAH!
Netflix is also limited and show you only what they want to show you. Most classics, like Braveheart, etc, you have to pay to watch! Videos like Monty Python might not be free, or available without buying! I already pay $10 a month. That's enough!

I watch Youtube every day.
Old British series, geopopoliticsl documentaries, economy, history,, interviews....
Very interesting and one can learn a lot !

Getting back to discussing Why People are not caring about Health, is due to many factors. Such as Traditional eating habits, Peoples Economic standing, Like we said, Advertising, Government Lack of regulations.
At this moment in time. Life has become complicated. Socially Bombarded by Corrupt media, controlled by Greed. Due to over population, Food has to be Produced by Factory Farming. Which by Nature leads to diseases. Our Health is based on What we consume. Over time Healthy eating, makes us less prone to disease, have clearer thoughts, more active minds.
We must figure out ways to insure our Factory Farmed Food is Healthier! We have to remove Politics from our basic needs of Clean Water, Air, and Food! Health care and Education should be Free for all! The Main Problem is, We live in Competition, not Cooperation on This Earth!
Until All people live in Harmony, we will always have an Unviable Life!
If We live in Peace and Harmony. Healthy Living will become Normal. 🙏

This article challenges the long-held belief that eating these types of seafood, selfish is harmful to your health. I think many of the articles discouraging their consumption are really referring to the risks of eating them in excess. But the truth is, consuming anything excessively isn’t good for your health.

Anyway whatever they say, to me I will keep eating eating, seafood, selfish, 'balinese babi guling', eggs. It is the same thing with drinking alcohol, beer, fine wine, Whisky, champagne in moderation.

Probably depends of where it has been fished or how it was "farmed" ...
Same as for beer, Heineken taste much better than Bintang.
