Where are you from? - Lets see where are most of our forum members coming.

Born in Born in Texas, spent 1/4 of my life there, on and off. Family is in North Carolina, spent 1/4 of my life there, on and off. 1/4 of my life spent in other, seemingly random, locations like Somerset, LLantwit Major, AZ and Utah. 1/4 of my life here, in Indonesia.

I don't remember tomatoes being particularly good anywhere, unless they were grown in someone's back yard.

Whereabouts in Texas? I have spent a bit of time down in the Rio Grande valley. Nice place in winter :) Burn's hole's into your head in summer if you stand outside too long.

I spent a year or more in: Lufkin, Longview, Dallas, Huntington, Center, Houston, Wichita Falls. Most of that was before the age of 13.

OK since some people said where they are coming from ..... I guess it is time for me. I am Polish, lived in UK (Yorkshire) for 6 years, now in Indonesia since 2012.

I'm Indonesian, specifically from Java who born and live in Greater Area Jakarta :)

Actually not all of the members are expats in Indonesia - some are Indonesian citizens. At least three members (I won't identify them, it is their choice to reveal as many or as few of their personal details as they choose) are Indonesians who live outside Indonesia.

As for me, I am from the Northeastern United States. But I have lived abroad for 27 of the last 30 years.

Americans are a dime a dozen; Macedonia is MUCH cooler. Do you ever meet fellow Macedonians here?

Hahahah I live near Opole (near Wroclaw). Polish beer... yes it is nice I was drinking it while I was on my holidays. I was also eating a lot of pork food (ham and sausages) as well as all the traditional dishes. My wife likes Poland a lot especially food. Pricewise it is the same as Indonesia. Costs of living .... more or less the same as Indonesia. Flag is the same as Indonesian only colours are reversed. I find here a lot of similarities here and in my country. I "introduced" my wife to cherry trees (sweet and sour), apple/pear/walnut/plum trees, gooseberries, red/black/whitecurrents, bluberries ... any berries....and peaches.

For mushrooms the season is in September. Next time I will show my wife late summer and early autumn season (August and September). Each time I am showing her how each season/month looks like in village/city/wood ect.

Yorkshire, England.
My adopted home is Bandung.

Wow BA. I didn't realize you were a Yorkshire lass! I was born in Richmond, Yorkshire and lived for some time in Beverley. My mother's home town was Beverley. Like a lot of other members here, I have spent a large part of the last 30+ years living outside the country. More than 15 years in Spain (thank god that counts towards my UK pension entitlement) and approx 14 years here in Indonesia, with just a year break in China.

Do you like bakso, tempe and sambel terasi? Do you eat "nasi" for breakfast? do you drink your black coffee of the saucer? Do you ride a motorbike to buy cigarette from the warung that literally 10 steps walking down the road? .. If your answer is all yes for the above questions.. yes you are from Indonesia.

So I guess this is the welcome thread for new users? I'm from Germany and live there as well, but I'm continuously looking for possibilites to resettle and to stay longer than a couple of months.
So... hello everybody! :yo:

I'm Canadian living in Canada and growing it's own tomato (they just start to turn red)... and wondering what am I doing in this forum???
I must had get lost! (is it just me or the formulation of this sentence sound a bit étrange?)

Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. Still live/work here part of the year.

I first visited Indonesia in 2004. As much of my travel used to be, I'd find a cheap ticket, and go where it took me. I spent a month in Indonesia. 3 weeks in Bali, and visited a guy I was friends with in Jakarta. As my first visit to a Muslim country I was happy that the locals were so friendly.

Since then, I visited at least once a year. In 2010, I met my future wife in Jakarta. The next year, we rented a small apartment in Jakarta for under a year. My wife became pregnant, and we really wanted a better city than Jakarta to live in.

We looked at Bali, but a bit hot, and just wasn't quite what we wanted.

Accidently, we went Bandung, and with the lovely B_A's assistance, we found a nice house to rent, and have been there since.

You must be one of a very few foreigners who visited our country in 1990 and also who knows about empty shops.

Who? ;)
I'm from Cascadia, otherwise known as the beautiful Pacific Northwest in the US, adult life in Seattle till a couple years ago. Bummed around Java and SE Asia for a while, now living in Bandung. I can fit in wearing jeans, flannel shirts, and hoodies here. And I don't die of heat exhaustion in the process. Bitchin.
