I was under the impression that police were supposed to be stationed at all Christmas services to keep the threats and rifraft out. Of course, typical reporting. They mention a permit but nothing else about which one or any problem with it. Maybe an organized protest on every mosque that can't produce a permit is in order.

Well, I guess you have 2 choices :
Accept it
Move out

One of the reasons I settled down in Bali, and would never live in another part of Indonesia.

Well, many of the locals don't have either of those choices. They can't accept it as it affects their faith and the practice of their faith, and they can't afford to move out. What to do then?

They have reached an agreement. The agreement is to what the police, RT, MUI, Mayor, Religious Affairs Minister, and their local representatives made with the head of the Pentecostal Church in Tulang Bawang. It will no longer hold worship services but can be a prayer area until the permit gets worked out. Take the deal or leave it becomes an empty space. As they called it, religious harmony and acceptance of all who wish to worship in their own faith.

One of the people we sponsored through highschool lives in Tulang Bawang. She is now married with a child and operates a cosmetics shop there. According to her, these disruptors are more the radical right in the area. FPI if you wish but that no longer exist so they don't say it. They are still very much active in the area. While the MUI was in attendance, it all followed the big NU convention and election that took place in Lampung Dec 22 to 24. People are all about that now.
