Ride sharing apps: new regulations

The only good thing I could see as a benifit is the cap during peak times. After that it is going to be a mess just please the regular taxi companies.

You will be paying more so the taxi mafias will be happy.

Yeah the prices will go up. However, they compensate that with constant promos (e.g. next 10 trips with 50% discount).

I spoke with 6 Uber drivers the last two days, of which 3 owned their own car. It is almost 1 April and nobody has any idea yet what to do, the 'negotiations' are still ongoing [sic].

Cue 2 years from now: massive corruption scandal involving ministry, lawmakers, taxi companies, local governments.

With local governments able to impose fleet quotas as well as bottom and ceiling prices, we all know where this is going.

You cant own the car any more, not sure how that will work

It should be a big boost to taxi services but a who knows what exactly for Uber and Gojek drivers.

Not looking good for Uber Grab and Gojek. Will this kill the service if individuals can't be owner operators? What kind of push back do these companies have? What will Uber do? I think Grab and Gojek are more local but this changes their whole model.

I was curious about the whole communal pool of vehicles thing- I can't imagine any car owners handing over the documents... nor scooter owners either.

Well I would think many are owner drivers, so that's the end of that, but knowing Indonesians they will fiddle a way round not owning the car

Monday at 8:30am took a GRAB from Permata Hijau to Semanggi Siloam hospital...as it was a busy time....Rp60,000....plus Rp5,000 to go thru' Mall Semanggi parking area to make a short cut.

Today at 11:00am called GRAB to make the same trip and was told it was also a busy time and would cost Rp60,000...we cancelled.

Called a Blue Bird from the BB station in our apartment complex. On the meter cost about Rp40,000 and no cost for taxi thru' the mall. Same cost to return.

We've used GRAB many times for a long trip to Permata Hijau to Tangerang and vv and GRAB was considerably cheaper but wonder if short trips during 'busy times' is worth it.

I could feel for some of the Bluebird drivers I spoke with, or through a translator. They had really noticed there work had slowed down so it was harder making a living. Also, talked to one Uber driver who was quite proud, he had driven for Bluebird for a number of years, cashed out, and got himself a vehicle for Uber. Also, more and more people joining Uber and Grab so some of them noticing there initial business slowing down. I more feel for the average Indonesian trying to make a living. It seems to be getting more difficult for everyone to get a slice of the pie.

Tried the same route today at 11:00am as my post #12.

Grab was NOT busy and quoted Rp32,000 + Rp 5,000 to enter and exit our security complex as it's a private car. Would take about 6 mins to arrive. I cancelled.

Concierge called Blue Bird from the station rank near our apartment complex...arrived within a couple of minutes and no need for taxi to pay for exit....meter read Rp35,600 at destination.

I've seen Grab and Uber be both more and less than taxi metered rates, but I've never had a problem with taxi metered rates, it's the many taxi drivers that refuse to use a meter that make me turn to Grab/Uber/Gojek every time.

That is one of the most important points in the agreement though; no more fare raise during busy times.

In fact, the whole business model of Uber (private cars, fares depending on the period, flexible workforce) is being phased out in RI.

Well, sitting in two privately owned cars by Uber and Grab today, I can say what the preliminary answer to this is:

The revised regulation will start being implemented unexpectedly soon, on April 1. That will kickstart a six-month "trial period" in which the government will monitor how the rule is working — or not working — before revisiting it.

I think we can all predict the outcome, if past examples of adherence to new regulations is any indication.
