Probowo for President

Yikes. It will be interesting to see how this develops. I hate to say it but he probably has a pretty good shot at winning.

oh no... I thought the drama during governor election would be the end of the show. but no.

I think your departure is well timed, although moving into Trump World also has its hazards.

This has subsequently been reported by some international media outlets as confirmation that Prabowo will run for president; some reporting appears to treat a Prabowo candidacy as a foregone conclusion.
I think that’s premature. I’d argue that the Hambalang speech reemphasised what’s become pretty clear over the past few months: Prabowo is genuinely ambivalent about running for president again, and is hedging his bets in the lead up to the 10 August deadline for party coalitions to nominate presidential tickets.

I agree with the assessment above. For someone announcing a candidacy, he put a lot of qualifiers: "If you nominate me, if you find me a coalition". It is not official until the candidate files with KPU, and the deadline for that is August, after the regional elections.

Most likely Prabowo is waiting for for the upcoming regional election to gauge his party's popularity first. Running for president is a very expensive endeavor, and in his 2014 run, a lot of it was personal funds. In fact, at this point I wouldn't rule out the possibility for him running as Jokowi's running mate. It is a much cheaper and safer option.

Gerindra has also recently thrown some of its hardline Islamic supporters under the bus, refusing to nominate their recommended candidates. One such candidate took to the media to say he was asked for Rp 40 billion (USD 3 million) to secure his nomination.

Looks like Jokowi may not need Probowo to be a replacement running mate....

http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/...susi-pudjiastuti-as-jokowis-running-mate.html

I heard about a candid comment she made to a reporter when asked if, in her field of politics, she was underestimated by her mainly male colleagues.
Her answer "No man is brave enough to underestimate me!"

I can imagine if a male politician tried to dominate her she'd shove a stick of dynamite up his ass and light the fuse.....just like sinking all those fishing boats....:moony:

Susi is a great choice for her personal qualities, but a terrible choice for her political assets, which are close to zero.

Jokowi needs to balance his ticket with qualities that he lacks (or is perceived to lack): strong Islamic credentials, political party support beyond PDI, non-Javanese, military support. Not necessarily in that order, and not necessarily all of them, but he needs some of them. Anyone who thinks Susi is a great VP candidate is already voting Jokowi.

M Zainul Majdi looks like a likely candidate.

So Prabowo is clearly having second thoughts about running again this time. He has to figure his chances are not good enough to risk a huge amount of money for a bid.

"Thus I declare before you that I am ready to become the tool of change and a tool for the Muslim community and Indonesian citizens," Prabowo said on Friday.

"However, if I am no longer needed and there is someone else who is better, I am ready to throw my support behind them for the sake of the people," he went on to say.

I hope SBY realizes* what's going on if he sees who's attending that meeting. And having Rizieq do the introduction from Mecca? Come on.

*Agus will have to wait, that's not a bad guy, but he should have been politically prepped at a younger age instead of wasting his time at the TNI.

I doubt he wasted his TNI time, but rather perfected his skills as a kleptocrat.

Well, judging by the tons of AHY billboards that showed up around town the past week, I think he is at least thinking of running...

With only 1 day left to register their candidacy for president/vice-president, neither Jokowi and Prabowo have formally announced their running mates.

While Jokowi will certainly seek a 2nd term, his choice for VP is still up in the air. Adding to the controversy is that the front runner for this position, Mahfud MD, has met with some resistance from NU. NU is the largest Muslim organization in Indonesia, and while officially not involved in politics, has been seen as close to Jokowi. NU leaders have stated that Mahfud is not a cadre of their organization. Further, they see no need to support Jokowi's candidacy if his VP pick is not from NU background.

On the other side, it seems that Prabowo's alliance with former president Bambang Yudhoyono may be falling apart. Previously it was thought that Yudhoyono's son, Agus, may serve as Prabowo's running mate, cementing the alliance between the two generals. However, more recently that position seems to have been offered to Jakarta's vice governor, Sandiaga Uno.
Sandiaga is a wealthy businessman, and has previously bankrolled the Jakarta election. Considering the high financial cost of running, it makes sense that Prabowo wants help to defray the costs.

This has prompted members of Yudhoyono's party to accuse that parties in Prabowo's coalition accepted Rp 500 billion to help secure Sandiaga as a choice. One of those parties (PAN) has now said that they will not accept Agus' nomination, so that may seem dead in the water.

If anything is certain at this point, it is that even with one day left in the registration period, things are still very fluid.

One of Yudhoyono's guys (Andi Arief, Vice Secr. Gen. of Partai Demokrat) also called Prabowo a "Cardboard General", or "Jendral kardus" in Bahasa Indonesia. So if you hear that term a lot on the news today, that's where it is from... :thumb:

Well watching RCTI news seems prabowo has put in his application and having Sandiaga as running mate, seem he donated the 500 mil, start as you mean to go on.SBY doesnt want to talk to Prabowo ever again, due to the fact he doesn’t want his son as running mate,

Its All About The Money...…..

And apparently they need that money to buy the support of two other parties. Disgraceful.
