Notary?

Ok I'm sure this has discussed before somewhere here but with a quick check I couldn't find it (I'm old and lazy sorry)

Anyway the branch of Bank of America where I have a safety deposit box has decided to close that branch down. Like a idiot we never authorize anyone but myself and my wife to access the box. So after a few calls to the manger of that branch , which is a nightmare because that person knows nothing about any banking rules. Anyway it comes down to 2 options, one is I make a run to the states to take care of it or since my daughter is coming to visit I can fill out a form and get it notarize here and they will ship the contents to a address that I provide.

Now understand most of the stuff is important paperwork , ie deeds , original birth certificates, divorce papers so on and so forth. Also a small amount of famliy treasures of some value.

Ok now my question , do I need to go to the embassy in Jakarta to get this form notarized or can I go to a notary in manado and will that be recognized as a legal notarized document in the states?

This is probably a question best directed to your bank, ie. they need a US recognized notary. FWIW, a notary in Manado probably will have no idea what he is signing.

FWIW I have recently had a number of documents notarized for banking and financial purpose here in Bali and they were accepted by International Financial Companies based in UK.
These included copies of passport and driving licences to identify both myself and my wife, our signatures and our address.

I'd make sure the notary is easily identified by their notepaper, titles and address. Also, ensure they date the notarized document.
You should fill all the document details yourself so the notary is only guaranteeing that the correct person is signing said document.

Usually a bank-website can suggest who would qualify as a guarantor of the documents you need...as dafluff suggested.

edit: BTW don't you possess one of the keys necessary to open the box?

Yes we have the key which we will give our daughter but they still won't let her open the box without being on the authorized card they have. Do get her on it both me ,my wife and daughter have to be at that bank.

And rember we are talking about Bank of America where the only people you can talk to know about as much about banking as the kid working at Taco Bell.

You would think that since they are closing this branch with 6 week notice that we can't be the only ones that can't be there to empty there box. What about some one who is sick or bedridden and can't get to the bank in allotted time. Don't get me started.

I agree...it's absurd they require personal attendance. There must surely be an easy way for someone to pick-up the contents of the box or them send to an address. A notarised letter of authority, plus the return of the key, should be enough evidence.

Don't get me started on B of A as well. I was with them when I lived in Arizona and they constantly made mistakes. I fired them and they still owe me about $65.

Thanks for the advice but think I will bit the bullet and go to the U.S. embassy and get paperwork notarize just because of timeline. Don't want to confuse the bank of American with a differant notary cause I'll only have 5 days to deal with them ( or should say my daughter will have 5 days). And if they get confused I'll be the one screwed.
