Earlier today I happen to glance at the TV screen and saw Hizbut Tahrir demonstrating against Ahok on TV One, they were carrying what looks like to me an ISIS flag. Is it not illegal to bring an ISIS flag? Moreover, is promoting caliphate (khalifa) not illegal in Indonesia? Is it not committing treason? If it is, then why is Hizbut Tahrir allowed to exist?

It's the black flag of Khorasan, not the ISIS flag. It has the shahada on it, I doubt Indonesia will be banning objects with the shahada on them.

Hizb ut-Tahrir is a subject I like to harp on because I had seen so much of them in Indonesia and they're very, very active. Indeed, why would Indonesia allow them to prosper when most (all?) Arab governments banned them for treason? They consider democracy a kufr system. They want to replace Indonesia's government with an Islamic caliphate. Yet in the mind of the average Indonesian Muslim, an attack on such an organization is seen as an attack on Islam itself.

Didn't they have a demonstration of support for ISIS on the streets of Solo recently ?? Whilst the police looked on probably gak berani to do anything as usual. A couple of weeks later there was the suicide bomber attempting to get into the police station (thankfully he blew himself up before he could gain entrance) The police were probably left wondering why.

I think Indonesia is either afraid or underestimating Hizbut Tahrir.

That's the trick isn't it? Anybody with comments or who doesn't agree, is a 'bad Muslim'.

Works for the FPI

Who ironically turned out on car free day in Jakarta to claim that muslims shouldn't be voting for Ahok because he is a "kafir" - that's a week after they declared that they wouldn't discriminate against any non muslim candidates.
