Hi everyone,

My name is Chloé, I am a french citizen and I am married to a colombian citizen. I will have a KITAS because I am going to work in Indonesia during two years. could anyone help us since nobody has been able to do so. We just need information to understand what we have to do so he can come with me to Indonesia.
I would like to know if my husband can apply to the Visa 317 to join me in Indonesia. Do you know if it is possible that my husband comes to Indonesia with a tourist visa and once he is there, he goes to Singapore to change his tourist visa for a visa 317. I'm asking you that because I was told that we needed to apply for the Visa 317 from the country where he lives (In France). However, it seems that many people have applied for this Visa from countries in which they are not residents.

Thank you.

Hi Chloé,

If you are here on a work KITAS, then your company needs to also sponsor your husband for a family KITAS, under the worker's family category. Usually the company will take care of this at the same time as your work KITAS. Note that he will not be able to work on that visa in Indonesia.

It is different than a spousal KITAS, as in the article I wrote, because in that case one of the spouses is an Indonesian citizen. This does not apply to you.

If your company is unwilling to do this (they shouldn't, but it has happened), he can come on a tourist visa, which is initially 60 days, then extendable 4 times, 30 days each. Then he needs to go to Singapore and start over.

Singapore is the most common destination for a visa run, you do not need to be a resident of Singapore to apply for Indonesian visa there.

Best of luck to you!

PS: Just noted that your husband's citizenship is Columbian. Unfortunately it is one of the view nationalities that are not eligible for either VOA or visa free entry. This means you need to arrange for a visa before flying to Indonesia.

This may be misleading to readers. The typical tourist visas are 30-60 days, there are none that can extend beyond 60 days. The 60+30+30+30+30 visa is a "Visit Visa" (for many years called a "Social Cultural Visit Visa") and must be applied for at an Indonesian embassy and requires an Indonesian sponsor.

?

And all this never came up during interviews and prep meetings with HR?

Indeed, thanks for the correction.

Tourist visa = 60 days, non extendable.
Social Cultural = 60 days, 4 x 30 days extension, need Indonesian citizen sponsor (and probably an agent to handle the hassle of extending)

@Chgr

If your company is not willing to sponsor a KITAS for your husband, this is a big red flag for me. Do they seriously expect that your husband not accompany you in Indonesia for 2 years? I would seriously reconsider working for them.

As for alternatives, your husband can get social-cultural visa, which is the 60 days + 4 x 30 days extension, provided you can find an Indonesian sponsor. You may want an agent to handle extensions also, as each one is 2-3 trips to immigration.
