Indonesian Youth and Smoking

But this thread is about why millions of Muslims do something that they know to be haram. Are they actually just pretending to be Muslim, and should the official statistics be changed to represent that fact?
If Indonesia is reclassified as a Muslim minority country, after taking out all the smokers, then things could change quite a lot.
The thread was originally about young Indonesians smoking. Probably a more useful discussion than what it is morphing into.

People sin in all religions. Surely you know that? Smoking is not like it is a major one at that. I stated that if you question a Muslim (or any religion really) about their habits (haram or not) they answer to God, not you. Also my point in all this mess originally was that youths don't need advertising to do something wrong. They will do it anyway. Also there are many things that cause health problems that are considered OK to advertise. Where do you draw the line?

If we all were"good boys, good girls" life would be bloody boring.
We all did things that the next day you go "well, that was not the brighest idea of the year"
But right after that you go "but it was good fun" ...
And long may it last ! I am still at it at 73. Occassionaly.....

Well, I'm sorry if this thread is moving towards a theological debate about sins and hypocrisy, etc.

I wrote earlier (post #4) that it might help to discourage youth from taking up smoking if respected leaders made statements. I didn't mean to involve religion. We all come up short and struggle with the discipline that we choose to follow.

It would be interesting to look through the Indonesian school curriculum framework to see what is taught about this issue. I don't have access to any local textbooks, but I'll make the effort to find something online.

On second thought, who cares? This is Indonesia, and my kids don't smoke.

Enjoy the weekend. 😝👍
