Just another fascist ego-maniac being played like a fiddle by Putin. It's ok, the US could have their own version by January.

I think Duterte is trying to set up a dictatorship and knows the US would stand in his way. I do also believe the US spends billions in the PI and wonder if China and Russia are ready to replace it? A complete US pull out would damage the PI and I think the people would be up in arms to separate from their beloved USA.

He is insane if he thinks of throwing his lot with the Chinese and Russian. Even now China is encroaching on his country and he is thumbing his nose at the US, the only country who is standing in the way of total domination of the Philippines by China. All because the US had the audacity of questioning his extra legal murders.

He is about to learn that the US, China and Russia are not as easy to push around as the small time drug pushers he is used to dealing with as mayor of Davao. Or maybe not.

He pushes out the US and he loses a lot not just in monetary value but in security. The US doesn't view the PI as a strategic location for them in the Pacific but see helping them as a way to keep China from taking over the entire china Sea. It is unfortunate that the previous PI administrations fought so had to keep China away from them and he comes along and destroys everything that was done. He will learn the hard way that while China and Russia come bearing gifts, what they take away will be much greater. PI would lose more old friends then new ones they may gain.

So, since he's cozying up to China, does that mean he's ready to let them keep the Scarborough Shoal? Obama simply questioned his extrajudicial killings, while China is ready to deprive his country out of potentially billions of dollars through the capture of the islands, and he picks the Chinese as friend? The mind boggles.

is it only me or does his name sound like someone saying two thirty with a really strong accent?
Other than that nowt to add - never heard of him (assuming it is a him as most despots seem to be).

.
Someone with the toughness in internal affairs of a Suharto combined with the imbecile foreign affairs view as popular populist Chavez. And also a big proponent of nepotism.

A dangerous combination.

Seriously what's all the russiaphobia and what's Putin got to do with Duerte's unusual statecraft?
