Buying Aircon units, advice needed

Hi everyone,

I need to install 4 AC units for the new house I'm moving in.

I'm also bringing with me a Sharp AH-A9VEY (1PK / 2.64kW) which is currently in my living room and doing a decent job, although the living room is not very big. So I need to buy 3 more.

I'm thinking of using the Sharp I have in the master bedroom (although I think it will be a bit overkill for the size). Then installing a 1.5PK in the living room (which is larger than the one in the house I currently live in) and 2 x 0.5PK in the 2 other bedrooms (1 to be used as my home office, the other as a guest room/home office for my wife).

I'm thinking of continuing with Sharp because that's what I have now, but I'm open to other ideas. Any suggestions for particular models/technologies? I'm really just looking for the best value for money.

Oh, an important point: I work from home, so ACs run all the time.

Ended up buying Thai made Mitsubishi units about 5 years ago after doing some research. One of the units never turns off and I just had to replace the interior fan motor for 150,000, so no biggie. Daikin is another good choice but a little pricey. At entry level all the models are pretty similar, luck of the draw for the most part.

Where I stay each unit has a Panasonic (Eco Smart 3) A/C in it (I know because I have had to move around several rooms during my time here). They take some hammer and seem to be left on all the time, regardless of whether a room is occupied or not ( it seems to keep the mold from growing/spreading). Most of the A/C units are years & years old.
I couldn't say as to price or cost to run but they certainly seem to be pretty much reliable workhorses.

I am very happy with my Daikin AC multiple split inverter units. Hebat dan hemat. Low kWh consumption. And what I like most is.. the ACs don't switch off and on continuously when the set temperature is reached.

Is this in Jakarta? We have a single 1/2pk unit in our bedroom, for when it gets hot, but we’re in Bandung.

I keep the temp at 25-26 most of the time, along with a pedestal fan. I’ve become a bit spoiled, honestly. It runs for 14 hours a day, lately.

We looked at the more expensive brands, but just went with a cheaper, decent warranty type. Super quiet fan. I think I detailed it in my AC thread awhile back.

As suspected, everyone seems happy with one of the main brands.

I'll probably go with Sharp inverter types, without the fancy ionizers.

Well, I had some el cheapo Uchida units installed in small bedrooms. Best decision ever, better than the Sharp Inverter which starts leaking and/or rattling every 4 months.

The brand which is very popular now over here, is Gree. A lot of word of mouth advertising.

It used to be rather cheap but the prices have gone up considerably the last year. Quality wise it’s rather good, we have one unit which is used intensely and it outperforms the others.

I think one of the main arguments is the warranty, like 5 years on the compressor.

I am also looking for AC and dehumidifier for our new hut; for AC ranging from 0.5 to 2PK, must be inverter type to conserve electricity during start-up. Will be connected to zigbee IR controller and tremp./humidity sensor.
Have been using Sharp for dehumidifier (portable) - no issue except have to remove 4-5 liter water from its container every morning. Prefer for fix installation. For AC, I'm considering Gree to as many store here selling it.

After playing around with crapy systems for years I forked over the big bucks and got me DeLongi dehumidifiers.

It‘s great in the bedrooms for when we’re away; I don’t want all sheets and clothes to be moldy and smelly when we come back. That can be for weeks or months. Now the temperature control is obviously not important then so it made sense not to use the (limited) Aircon.

The cool thing -no pun intended- is now those devices have WiFi and with the app it’s extremely easy to control them from a distance…

Thanks - where you get it? Checked the Delonghi official store Indonesia; they dont have it. Found one shop selling Delonghi DDSX220WF Tasciugo AriaDry Dehumidifier for Rp. 20M far more expensive than AC.
the one I have - Sharp is not bad - work perfectly but I'd like to have bigger capacity with drain line. too lazy to remove the water from tank daily. Wifi - preferable - zigbee will be big plus.

When you are not home for months ... how do you empty the drain reservoir? Will the drain reservoir not get full of water?

Many dehumidifier units have a drain feature - you just need to have some tubing and a drain somewhere near - most of the bathrooms here have floor drains so it would be easy to set up in most houses and apartments.

Gemima is right; the unit has wheels, I drive it into the bedroom, plug it in, extend the thin flexible hose to the bathroom drain (or shower area). It literally takes me 3 minutes.

Something I forgot to mention: the dehumidification works much better at higher temperatures. And the published specs of the better machines are for western average temperatures, including winters.

So a unit that officially handles 90 m3 (cubic) works extremely well in a double (bed and bath) room of 85 m2 (square). (My personal observation.) Also, after one day or so it goes into ‘maintenance’ mode; the initial higher humidity is gone so less work and power usage is necessary.

Avoid the Kris(bow) systems etc. if you can and make sure that after a power failure the chosen setting is reactivated. That is an issue with quite some machines here.

I took Gree for my office (13 indoor units and 2 outdoor), inverter. Electricity pretty low.

So far so good, hopefully will be good in the days coming.

I just checked dehumidifiers in Electronic City. They have a Sharp and a Stadler ( with wifi app) humidifier. The 'slang' of the Stadler is not long enough and totally not flexible. The 'slang' of the Sharp .. didn't see that one ...

Sharp does not have drain hose; you have to remove and dispose regularly. will switch off when full. Other than that, I have no complain. Have been using it for 7 months without problem.
