Best place to buy Smart Phone from Bali?

Some while ago I was told by a mobile phone "doctor" that contemporary phones are basically designed to last about one year. And then there's the slick marketing to have you feel that your new phone is already obsolete the moment you walk out the door.

My wife has a Samsung that seems it really doesn't want to work anymore so I have told her to get a new Smart Phone and if the upper end gives better value for money to spend more. I have seen websites recommended for on line buying in Indonesia and also references to some stores that carry good ranges at okay prices. Interested to know what others would recommend... on line or store purchase? And which website or which store?

Thanks in advance for recommendations.

I would get it from a proper store, ie Samsung store for a Samsung.

For the average user, a smartphone should last between 3 to 5 years. After that it I feel it is outdated, and you would get much use from an upgrade. If all you need it for is phone and sms/WA, then of course it could last much longer.

In Denpasar smartphone central is basically Jalan Teuku Umar. The biggest one there is probably Cellular World. For brands like Samsung, LG, or Apple, prices are pretty much the same from one store to another.

Buying online is typically cheaper, sometimes by up to 20% but there is always a small chance of annoyances: late delivery, wrong product, dead or damage on arrival etc. Of course it is covered by warranty, but you have to arrange all the returns etc. Be especially careful online of stores that sell smuggled electronics, because the local branches may not honor the warranty.

Exactly, the part of the road up from the roundabout with Babi Guling Pak Candra, nice lunch spot.

Prices can be, or could be, negotiated if paying cash/debit.

I had an original BB Bold 9000 for many many years and left it in a taxi and then had the 9900 bold for the last 3-4 years and never any problems with anything, even w/a still works fine, it is fast, battery lasts all day etc etc

Meanwhile I have had to change iphones many times because they just seem to have problems or get outdated - heck even the battery doesn't last a full day with light usage

No need to follow the herd and get iphone 8 or 7 or 6

the iphone 5 or 5s can be had brand new for 2 or 3 jt now and works perfectly well

regarding online or in store, lazada is pretty good online and will replace / refund if you have problems and have 1 year int'l warranty

or buy from the actual samsung / apple store in bali if you are particularily worried or nervous about trust

for me i have always bought from ambassador mall, same shop, never once had any problem, had bought so many over the years for others that i can just w/a her for the best price and she prepares the package for me, sets it up, screen guard, glass, nomor cantik, pulsa etc etc and i just go and pay and take it away

Good tip on the Babi Guling...need to go there soon...:car:

I will be interested to see what my wife settles on. She spends a lot of fime swiping and looking at Youtube so a larger screen than her present Samsung although she did say the larger ones are harder to hold.
I have a plain little Nokia that I bought in Nairobi about 8 years ago. I can send and receive text and take and make telephone calls. Suits me perfectly. I use my HP laptop at home for general wifi stuff.
