It seems that beritasatu.com had a script running on its website which lets it mine cryptocurrencies using its visitors computing power.
To "mine" a cryptocurrency (such as Bitcoin but in this care it appeared to be Monero), the processing power of a computer is needed to solve some kind of equations. Usually, if someone wants to mine, they have to willingly download a mining program on their computer.
In the case of beritasatu.com, this program was hidden in the website's code and running on its visitors' computers without their knowledge or consent. Because mining is a fairly resource intensive process, visitors could see their computers heating up under the load of this mining program.
It would be a lucrative endeavor for whoever inserted that mining program on beritasatu.com with thousands of computers all working towards mining those precious coins. That would be some serious computational power right there!
For your information, The Jakarta Globe is a property of beritasatu.com, so if you visit that website you may have inadvertently mined coins for someone else.
Currently, it seems like the mining script has disappeared from their website.
UPDATE: According to Kumparan.com, the Head of Digital Development at Berita Satu stated that the script was not injected internally but externally by one of the third party ad networks the company uses. (source)
