BBC Indonesia reports that up to 389 tourists are unaccounted for following the eruption of Gunung Barujari in Lombok. Between Sept 25 and 27, 333 foreign and 56 local tourist are registered as entering through the Sambalun gate and have not been registered as leaving. It has been reported that “some tourists did not immediately heed warnings to leave because they wanted to take photos or videos of the eruption.”

Gunung Barujari, a small volcano popular with hikers in Lombok, erupted on Tuesday Sept 27, prompting several flights to be delayed/cancelled at neighboring Bali's Ngurah Rai airport. The volcano's eruption has repeatedly closed regional airports in previous years. The "baby" volcano sits in the crater of the larger Rinjani volcano.

I hope the tourists are okay, but ...

The video is labeled "Ketika Rinjani Meletus" - but is that really Barujari? (ETA: the Atlantic article suggests that it is.)

At the beginning of the video, I can see thinking "yay, cool, some explosions" but by the end, it's kind of HOLY SHIT I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING! IS THE PYROCLASTIC FLOW COMING? (I got to see some explosions on Kintamani that were sort of like the ones at the start of the video - but it never got that scary.)

I think that is Batujari, which sits inside of Rinjani's caldera. On youtube it is dated Nov 15 2015 though, so it is an older eruption.

this happened a few years ago when Mount Anak Krakatau erupted, the geographic department that monitors volcanic activity already issued warnings based of seismographic information and warned people to not climb the mountain or even visit, as usual these warnings were totally ignored.

I don't know if you are referring to the 1993 incident described here or a more recent one, but the linked story made a huge impression on me - I identified strongly with the woman who was killed, since we were of similar age and both from the Boston area.

There will always be disaster tourism (ramptoerist we call them). Bit of a human thing I guess, like rubbernecking.
