Attacking newbies as usual

Same goes with 'It was someone else's fault' Hillary. Thankfully she isn't running.

That being said, I was referring to the voters, not politicians. No doubt whoever wins the election, the other side will say the near is near...again.
False equivalence.

By many accounts Churchill was a terrible man, but he paled in comparison to his contemporaries Hitler and Stalin.

Few people are excited about Hillary and Biden, but compared to the alternative from the other party, they look great. Dem candidates might not be very likeable, but the Repub president is downright despicable.

I do recall that more than a few folks were flabbergasted that Trump won in 2016, likely including Trump, himself, but few (beyond the barking mad fringes) disputed the outcome, or chalked it up to some sort of grand fraud or conspiracy. The build up to the coming election suggests that the 2016 scenario will not be repeated.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Trump's 2016 win was a reflection of the basic mistrust that so many people had about "politicians" and Trump came across as a maverick and still does. Throw in the strong discriminatory attitudes of many Americans, their sense that they were being done over by China with the wiping out of American jobs and the stage is set for Trump to get back.

The only thing I know for sure about this election is: don't trust the polls.

The most disappointing thing about elections is that regardless of who you vote for a politician gets in.
That was part of the appeal (to some) of Trump. It turns out that a lifelong showboater and con-artist is actually worse. The non-politician approach has been tried many times before; Herman Cain (RIP), Ben Carson, Andrew Yang, Marianne Williamson, etc. They rarely even make it to the last 3-4 candidates in the primaries.

Perhaps, but pollsters are very much instructed by their mistakes; 2016 was a harsh lesson, one that they claim to have adjusted for in 2020. A "Dewey Beats Truman" polling fiasco could happen again, I suppose, but I think the probability of error this time around has diminished.

Not to mention the discrepancies in 2016 in the polls were numbers that were far closer together. Looking at the error margins the race polls were either very close are widespread. Ended up close enough for an Electoral College win for trump and a popular vote for Clinton.
This time the numbers are much farther apart in Bidens favor even taking into consideration for the errors.

Whereas trump received a lot of "not hillary" votes, Biden is not hated as much as she was. Add the "what the hell did I do" voters for trump in 2016 going the other way to get him out, I sure looks like Biden will take this by quite a large margin. Well, depending on trump stealing it through his court picks.

That does indeed look to be the case. I think many on the left don't want to talk about it because overconfidence may cause significant numbers of people not to vote. I would say that a high turnout and a complete trouncing is still very important, because Trump has already shown his hand; his primary strategy now has nothing to do with gaining new voters or higher turnout on his side, he is primarily focused on getting millions of mail-in ballots thrown out and the election decided by judges and legislatures. An overwhelming defeat will be the only way to assure this can gain no traction.

Ha....im ok with it, but its kind of ironic that this ended being the election thread.

The "American Dream" ... "Making America Great Again." Yes, America can be great if you have money and better still if you are white and have money. An egregious example of what life can be like depending upon your status is demonstrated with the cost of insulin for diabetics. Without insurance in the US a 10 day supply of insulin is $300. The same product in Canada is $30. With a profit driven dynamic, costs of not just medicines but health care are outrageously expensive.

Sadly the decades long right wing propaganda has it that any measures addressed at improving the lot of the poor, as with, for example, "Obama care" is described as socialistic, communistic and designed to deprive Americans of their freedoms.

If Trump were to be re-elected America will continue on down the American dream path to the misfortune of a very large proportion of it's peoples who will continue to lead lives of deprivation and poverty.

Much ado about nothing.

As Shakespeare's play portrayed, the line between tragedy and comedy is sometimes ill defined. For the spectator class, the administration antics are comedy; for the targets of the administration -- the poor, none white races and those with Hispanic, Latino, and Asian ethnic heritages, as well as women and the LGBTQ community, its a tragedy.

For all their shortcomings, politicians usually respond to majority public opinion. Trump isn’t a politician, so he thinks he has a mandate from heaven and does everything as he damn well pleases.

Mandate from Heaven...I think not. Trump is outwardly Christian only to the extent it bolsters his reelection chances and his ego. I doubt, as well, that the evangelical right is under any illusion that Trump is one of them. They do recognize him as a tool to serve their agenda, even if it does require the holding of their noses while doing so.

I don’t mean to imply that he’s a religious Christian, if I do I would have said mandate from God (with capital G).

Call it heaven, universe, or any higher power of your choosing. Trump thinks and acts like he’s entitled to rule without any limit.

And the people who love to shout about their rights and personal freedoms welcome a would-be tyrant.
