4/11, 25/11 and 2/12 anti-Ahok demonstrations

After the two hour emergency meeting, Jokowi gave that brief statement around 12:10 this morning...wonder what kind of stuff he and the Kapolri/TNI ministers were discussing behind the closed doors. One of the statements he made about there's somebody taking advantage of the riot situation, would his intelligence/BIN know or perhaps already know who that is? I feel like it's like damn if I do, damn if I don't situation for him.

3 week notice for another possible riot/rally by FPI. I would guess the lawmakers behind are from the same parties that financed this whole thing.

"After Monday next week, we will follow up all the news. If there is no development in three weeks, we are ready to stage another rally,” Rizieq said in Jakarta on Saturday morning.
Rizieq admitted that he has also received promises from a number of lawmakers.

And Jokowi has said "the legal process against [Ahok] will be carried out strictly, quickly and transparently."

Madness. Why not instead say: "Those of you who tried to incite murder, those of you who smashed shops, cars and set fire to police vehicles, you will be arrested. Because you are traitors to the nation. And those of you who masterminded and funded today's protest, you are the biggest traitors of all, because instead of supporting good governance and development, you are exploiting religion to drag this country backwards into intolerance, violence and corruption. Thank you."

Now, wouldn't that be nice. In all likelihood, because he doesn't want anyone calling him names. They would turn it around to make him out as anti Muslim.

In which he case he needs to stand up with the leaders of NU and Muhammadiyah and any other good ones, and very gently explain that the anti-Ahok movement is nothing to do with religion/Islam, it is all about dirty politics. "If you want to be good Muslims, and you want to fight against injustice, then demand that the murderers of Marsinah, Udin and Munir be brought to justice. Oh, and turn down the volume of loudspeakers at mosques, cos Allah is not deaf, and you're just damaging the hearing of children and adults by having those things at 85 decibels or higher. Thanks." </dream of being president>

I must say though, that I had the feeling when looking at the live stream, that many (FPI) people were doing an effort to contain violence and riots. And the violence in Pluit was more chaotic aside the real demo. So it does seem Jokowi's approach of talking to all leaders up front was helpful.

Many rumors again. The latest; Ahok as potential ambassador in China. Haha.

sorry I've lost the plot again, Ahok quotes correctly from the Koran, some arsehole makes a recording altering Ahoks quote, Ahok is now under police investigation, but the(whose name I don't know) person giving out false information is not being investigated, do we see another trial on a par with the JIS and Jessica cases, where are all the sensible people in Indonesia, or perhaps I'm being silly again, there aren't any.

Brilliant summary, thanks Anglian.

The person who altered the video and put on facebook is Buni Yani....yet many websites where his name appears is now blocked.
I watched TV, assisted by my wife's translation, and surmised the police are investigating him...if anyone has info please post here...very interesting.
My opinion, having listened to many Indonesians is...they are sick and tired of those minority firebrands who create trouble for the welfare and good future for Indonesia and they should be branded as traitors.
The police are already investigating the money-trail of funding. I expect it will end up no-where as the Indonesian mentality is to not make waves...

Given that I recently had a tumor surgically removed, and I survived to write this, gives credence that cancers and radical extremists need to be removed completely...otherwise they grow and destroy innocent cells, and societies and families.

Buni Yani, be interesting to know the background of this worm, see who is backing him or is he just a sad lonely man who likes shit stirring for the less intelligent, he must be open to a few civil charges assuming mr plod can get his act together

What's the Indonesian expression for hot chicken shit?

The media and Jokowi need to stop treating this as if it had been a genuine protest. It was just a rent-a-mob. Paying people to join rallies/protests is what Indonesia does best. At my local (nearest) mosque, the guys say five buses were provided and packed full of people, who were each paid only Rp200,000 (and a free food box and waters) for doing the 9am to 3pm bit, and were then bussed home. Paying people to take part in a so-called religious protest is pathetic (especially when religion is a complete red herring -- it was a purely political protest orchestrated by corrupt scum who don't like an honest person pulling their filthy snouts out of the trough of public funds).

Kotoran Ayam Panas...I'm surprised you didn't know that.
Do you have a point....

Your comment prompted my lazy ass into action. I could not remember the spelling of the expression which translates roughly into hot attention grabbing events are quickly forgotten, replaced by newer hotter news.

Google confirms that "panas panas tahi ayam," is the expression as I thinking of. Perhaps, "Kotoran Ayam Panas," is simply another way of expressing the same sentiment. Don't know.

The point is that the Ahok blasphemy is the current hot chicken shit that will quickly cool i.e. migrate to the back of the public mind and be shoved under the rug by authorities.

Hangat-hangat tai ayam or "anget-anget" tai ayam to make it more casual sounding, was what you were thinking of. I do doubt that it'll go away quietly this time (the Ahok alleged blasphemy that is..)

Hopefully you may be correct... but I doubt it.
Anyway...I've archived your comment for future re:..... as you seem so convinced.

Arswendo Atmowiloto went to jail for less, so I wouldn't declare that Ahok is safe just yet.

The National Police Chief says that the Ahok proceedings will be televised in the name of transparency. Not sure what I think of this because you know there will be people of differing interpretations of what is being said. They have already spoken to the FPI leader and called him an "expert witness" but, he has no credentials to be an expert in anything. It seems the kangaroos have already been entering the court room for this. Ahok has announced that he has made plans for his family and they are prepared if he should go to jail so he doesn't seem to be taking anything for granted.

This may just come down to who's face is going to be saved? Ahok's on the side of a Democracy of laws, or Religion representing a far right radical approach. One can only hope that Indonesia chooses democracy and sees all this as being political moves and not religious.
