The Trump/ISIS connection is a stretch. But the views of the army in regards to PKI are real. General Gatot publicly aired his opinion about communists and China (something about Chinese migrants, boat, dead cows and sharks if you recall). He's freaking paranoid and I'm sure he's not alone.

Jokowi is a complete outsider, fairly new to politics, and untainted by the communist purge, East Timor, Aceh, and such and he represents a risk for the old guard and the military.

I am sure there is so much crap that goes on behind the scenes it is mind boggling. And I remember some of the paranoid crazy things that one General was saying. I am thinking if someone was looking for a long term dictatorship these days perhaps building up Islamists as a threat to the state would be more apt to gain outside support then communism. But apparently the head of the FPI mentioned communists when he recently preached to a crowd at a mosque attended by some of the Suharto clan, Prabowo and Anies among others. This was reported in one of the English newspapers. I believe he said that Muslims were ready to fight against this.

Also Generals have been running things for years so it makes sense some don't want to give up power.

If Jakarta is a big corporation and employees can vote for their CEO, they just voted for an “Ulama” over “Carlos Ghosn”. What will be the future of the company? If it goes bankrupt, all employees will lose their jobs. Jokowi is planning to remove capital from Jakarta because of this....
Extremists is taking control ove the local tribes. They blend in. Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, the next destination of Capital, on the other hand, owned by the Dayaks who are still preserving unity in diversity. This radicalism/FPI Problem will come up over and over again, cause the puppet master behind it, always finds buyers for their projects.

Once you are back "for good", you have to give up your logic, and follow whatever it is here you need to follow, obedience is the key

The judges will render the verdict and sentences, which does not have to match anything the prosecutor demands.

Many of them go back based on promises. Wife's friend was maybe within a couple years away from getting her Aussie's permanent residency. Let it go to take care of her dad's restaurant business "If you don't like it, you can always pick a big national company to work for, etc" After she left...she ended up given a not-so-succesful branch out in BSD while the main business is given to her sister, whose job is to just sit and do nothing at the front desk, while the mom is managing the cashier area.

Usually, parents or whoever try to bring those Indonesians here...would say "Just come here first and we talk it out" and only after you're here, then they change their town. To them it's not dishonesty, it's just the way they do things. I'm a slow learner, but believe me after a few years here I'm finally learning!

I find these statements to be quite sad. I am sure a lot of Indonesians feel sad today.

The only glaring mistake in that article is his musing that Prabowo may accept a second fiddle position to Hary Tanoe, or that such a ticket would poll any better than the other way around.

Well... this blows my mind. If half of that is true then Indonesia is in for some chaos. I'm amazed by the people being interviewed and how loose lipped they are.

It would seem like Anies, the General will use the same tactics of going after the poor to low income with a lot of promises that can't, won't be kept. He was the tactition for Anies and seen some of the things that worked. Add the support of the radicals and it plays into his plans for success.

If Anies fails to deliver campaign promises in time for the general election, then Jokowi's side can easily bang on this endlessly during the run up to the election.

Upholding democracy, that's a laugh, Ramadan is just round the corner, I can see FPI running riot, I met some very sad Indonesians in the last couple of days due to the results in Jakarta, and they live in Tangerang
