Indonesian immigration has just announced the new eVisa program, set to launch very soon. This program takes the whole visa process online, and the finished visa will be e-mailed to the applicant. This means no more travelling to an Indonesian mission abroad to collect your visa. (y)(y)

1. The application can be started by going to visa-online.imigrasi.go.id
2. If approved, the visa will be sent to the applicant's and sponsor's e-mail address.
3. The applicant does not need to go an Indonesian mission abroad.
4. No need for physical meeting with staff at an Indonesian mission abroad.
5. Applicant can immediately travel to Indonesia once the visa is granted.

Will the immigration check points have access to this system so when you present the email print out and your passport they know where to check? ;)

One would assume that this is exactly how it would work, but who knows...

Maybe in a couple of month we will find out that the visa database is filled up and it will have to stop issuing visas while they figure out how to fix it...

Hehe had to ask, just because this week (yesterday) I just experienced where I registered for something at a government institution on Friday. On Monday, I was unable to do anything about it with the downstream department. Apparently the latest list that included us on Friday have not been sent to the department I was engaging on Monday :D

Does this mean people with a KITAS can renew it every year without doing a exit permit leaving the country? Or do they still need to fly out of the country and merely board the next flight back to Indonesia?

I'm pretty sure people with KITAS could renew it every year in country before? But yes, you apparently will be able to even do SosBud type visas online and on shore. The onshore thing may be just pandemic related however.

Until now my work KITAS could be renewed for 5 years - after that cycle I would have had to leave Indonesia and do the whole TELEX thing in SG. So you are correct, we didnt have to leave every year. Will be nice to renew next year without having to leave!
No idea how it goes with spouse sponsored KITAS.

KITAS renewal has always been in country unless you had let it expire.

One question I have to ask is for someone like myself who hasn't as yet but will in the future be travelling to Indonesia on a Social visa I'd like to make a couple of 6 month long term stay in the next couple of years , so as I know I need to have my flights booked for the visa application proof of funds etc if that is accepted by the embassy why the need to visit Jakarta or Bali immigration counter every 30 days to expand each stamp individually? I'll be based in Jakarta so this isn't a problem, but say for example I was going to Jayapura for 6 months or west Papua in general does that mean a tourist has to travel back to Jakarta every month just to extend this? Can anyone clarify this as I could be wrong but can you imagine the costs of travel involved just to extend a stamp?

For a start they might change the 6 month visa and be stricter on the reason. So no more 6 month "tourist" visa and instead maybe some sort of 6 month kitas instead. There was talk of the digital nomad visa.

But I think it will be a total overhaul to stop the misuse of people coming and "working" online etc for 6 months under the pretence of being a tourist.

At the moment it's all just plans. So means will take several years before it's actual law

And yes you're supposed to renew your sosbud where your sponsor lives or did the original

Btw apart from fingerprints the first extension you don't have to physically be there for the others. So you could just dhl your passport to your sponsor every month

Kind of understand the idea, but as I still live in the UK I'd be giving up work here to come to stay up to 6 months as I'd have savings to use, I know the current rules state on a sosbud the first 60 days your valid up to then you can extend I think 3 times to achieve the 6 months but if I'm right it states only immigration at Jakarta or Bali but I was planning to visit far east Indonesia and say if I was in West Papua for 2 months would I have to cut my trip short just to get the 1 month extension? Surely it makes sense to pay for the 6 months upfront on the issue on the visa can this be done or is there any talk of this being possible? I've only ever came on the 30 day visa free before and never stayed more than that on any of my four visits

That's a different visa
That's a 6 month visa from the embassy you apply before you enter the first time

Sorry I'm only aware of a social/family visa that would allow me to stay for up to 6 months to see my girlfriend, but it states that you still need to extend after 60 days and each month after? Can anyone confirm this for me ? Thanks

Yes that's a B211 sosbud social visa
60 days then 4 x 30 days extendable at immigration internally no need to fly out.

But there (used?) to be a straight 6 month tourism visa I believe? But apply only through from embassy before you arrive.
Not sure if available still especially with corona

Best to ask your consulate in the country where you are now

Yea the B211 is the one I was looking at but to apply for this visa my flights have to be booked etc to have the itinerary to show them along with where I'm staying etc etc, all that's no problem but I'm just confused why a country would expect you to extend every 30 days in Jakarta if I'm planning on visiting remote small islands for up to 6 weeks the other side of Java and I've shown the embassy I'm coming for 6 months in the first place. 🙈

I suggest you read again from the start. This has been explained to you. You don't have to be there in person for every extension

Sorry yes I overlooked that thanks for the feedback mate 🍻

Ah - as much as I love this country - dont get trapped into expecting rules here to make sense/ be sensible/ logical. However, there usually is a way around things (usually involving an "agent").

Thanks Gemima, yea I'm prepared to face alot of things that maybe not as go as fast paced as England, it's just out of frustration of not seeing my partner and not knowing when I can return let's hope we all see some sense of normality soon. ☺️
