First Class Train

Across Java, one of the best trains to take was the Argo (Eksekutif class).

Now a higher class has been introduced. And yes, it does look somewhat like international Business Class.

Available as of tomorrow. It’s a pity the prices are rather steep; it will cost you 900.000 IDR for a trip. Just like in Europe, it is faster and cheaper to fly.

According to the Jak Post, the price of 900k is a special introductory offer. They didn't mention what the full price would be.

I'd rather jump on a plane and get the journey over with. I can't say I'm a big fan of Indonesian train stations. Gambir is ok, but as for the rest, not really....

Argo is good enough. I like train trips.

If not in a hugh hurry trains are great way to travel. You get to see the country much better. Better to look out the window then watch TV.

Ah yes that's true. I was thinking in the context of the new first class though. I think it's only their night trains to Surabaya?

Also morning. So twice per day and the trip to Surabaya is approx. 9 hours.

I love the romanticism of trains - reminds me how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful country. Something that's sadly lost on a lane, rather like comparing a home cooke meal to a Mc D I suppose.

Not only do you get peer into Indonesia's back yard, getting well acquainted with train station vendors is part of the fun. Reminds me of trips to the beach.

The trains aren’t horrible here (long distance trains), but unless you’re doing it for the experience, it can be a bit pokey.

I’ve ridden Chinese high speed trains, plus kinda high speed ones in France and Italy. All interesting in their own way.

I once won a 30 day railpass in the US on Amtrak, on a game show. Unfortunately, I was running a few different businesses, so had to give the pass to family members to use. I always wanted to check out the long haul US routes.

Yes it needs to be for the experience (or a fear of flying or so), otherwise it has no use. Quite popular with tourists who land in Jakarta and want to go to central and east Java. The problem is there is no good connection (time) with most international arrivals; they all need to stay overnight. Jakarta could benefit much more of the inflow.

When I was in Indo on vacation last month, we did the Bandung-Tasik route on Argo Willis Executif. I saw the ad for this, and I would definitely ride it for that route, though I doubt they will offer it on a 3-hour ride. Otherwise, I'll just take a plane.
