Hi everybody,
I cant find any thread about this argument, so here I am
The company where my indonesian wife work was used to pay a medical ensurance for their employees and families, but they announced that from janury 1th 2017 that ensurance will be paid only for the employees, so I have to find one to cover me, I tried BPJS Kesehatan, but they refused my application because I got a family Kitas and not a working kitas.
So is there anyone who can suggest me a local and cheap medical ensrance?
Im still in good health and I dont need full cover.
Thanks in advance for the attention

I'm also under the impression that spousal Kitas/Kitap holders are eligible for BPJS Kesehatan but not those with Retirement Kitas/Kitap.
It's a very grey area and information is not consistant...keep trying, good luck and please return with news.

I have a retirement KITAP and BPJS, I have to say my initial application was rejected, but pushing it it was accepted, I know several expats in Bali who have BPJS, so just keep badgering them, like many government departments the staff don't seem to know what their job is

I have seen a similar situation, but in a very sexist way: The male employees' families are fully insured, but not the female employees' husbands (They assume the male spouses have their own job and insurance?) I would bring something like that to court, but TII and nobody objects.

Well, thanks to all for the suggestions, I will try to apply again with BPJS and in the meantime keep to looking for an alternative.

I have a retirement KITAP and BPJS,

I'm not trying to pry but, if you have a WNI spouse, why would you need to have a retirement Kitap when a spousal Kitap is so much cheaper to obtain.

I'm only asking to see if there is something I'm not aware of.....

My wife is an Indonesian but, because she took Canadian citizenship over 20 years ago and therefore no longer WNI, we BOTH have to pay the big-bucks for retirement Kitaps...and not allowed to have BPJS....although we subscribe to have both our permanent staff on that program.

A friend is insured with Allianz and has some good experience. Someone else has been using Sinar Mas and had major issues getting refunded. I had a comparison chart between medical insurances once, I will look for it...

You would have to contact all major brands like: AXA, Sinarmas, LippoInsurance, Manulife, AIA, Tokyo Marine, Prudential - to get the quote. They have various options and plans. I highly doubt they will be as cheap as BPJS.

I am personally using Sinarmas (asuransi jiwa) and AXA full comprehensive insurance including abroad countries (except USA). Before I used Allianz. My wife is using Indolife. In my case the insurance agent came to my house to tailor product to our needs.

Here you have a link to some products and prices (now sure how old are they):

When I got my KITAP, immigration referred to it as retirement KITAP and for some reason that's stuck in my head, but you are correct it's a sponsored by my wife, still I think I might push a bit to see if you can get a BJPS, is there a specific ruling that you cannot have a BPJS

Thanks Anglian...I'm happy that I haven't missed anything re: Kitap.

Here in Bali I've been told by some, who have applied, that the BPJS was NOT available to those on Retirement Kitas/p, but is on a spousal Kitas/p.
I've recently been in hospital in Bali (2 operations within 10 months) and seen what level of service BPJS offers and I'm not sure I'd even want that but, fortunately, I have funds to pay for private medical attention.

Yes I feel the same Dave, it appears here people arrive at 5am for an appointment, and wait a cosiderable time, not for me, I don't know if the system has improved regarding appointments and treatment, but like you two trips to hospital and while I can afford it it would sooner pick my own place of treatment

I agree but it would be nice to also belong to BPJS as the cost is so low and one never knows how much medical one might need in Indonesia. My surgeries/hospital bills this year, in Bali, is around US$30,000.

I'm not sure if all the medical insurances companies have the same policy, but for some over 70s only have 50% cover

Did you have to input an age to get those premiums...at my age I'd be getting a bargain on any compared with the premiums I've been offered. Cigna is one of the few Co's. that insures the elderly.

I agree that using a brokerage to do this work for free is the way to go...they get their commission from the Medical Insurers....not from the client.

I agree with you jstar, it can give you great insight on prices, differences in products, deals and overall situation on particular matter. However OP is looking for cheap insurance the cheapest you give him is around 600 EUR. Give or take few years it will definitely go up by now (700-800 perhaps). Not sure if that is what OP is looking for.... my thinking is it is not. Paying 75 rb for insurance in BPJS and 10 times that for the cheapest you showed in post above per month is maybe a bit too much for him/her. My gut feeling says he is looking for insurance in range 100-200 ribu rp / month.

My previous post was only to show OP "the way" the rest he has to "walk by himself". I don't want to recommend any particular insurance products as there are so many of them with so many details it just makes my head spin. Personally I think price is the last factor I would be looking at when choosing the right insurance. Not sure if OP is aware of it.

You are right smallword, im looking for a cheap insurance but also Im aware that too cheep wouldnt have a good coverage.
I have time until the end of december before the actual insurance policy expire, so I want to be sure to explore all the possibility.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I really appreciated.

have you considered Prudential? My family all have it. Also after ten years of paying the monthly premium you dont pay anymore.
