Hello people,

I am starting and getting the framework ready for an annual (hopefully) young women in the workforce conference. I will be asking for for volunteer committees later to actually run this.

Currently what I would like to do is see if you guys are or know of women (any age) in non traditional female roles or in high positions of leadership. I would like to explain the idea of the conference and hope that they would be able to support it. At this point I will just need to interview them and get their stories and hope that they would be okay with us asking them to speak later.

We would like to know how they got to their position, how they got started, the challenges they face, etc.

This is in preliminary stage right now. I'm working with a few awesome young women to get the concept paper done. And then I'd like to connect them with a couple of mentors and then hand over the whole thing to them to manage. I will only be in the background if they ever need anything. Otherwise it will be the committee's credit to pull the event off.

Please PM me if you are interested or you are in a position to introduce me to someone who may be a great speaker/mentor/resource.

Thank you.

Women from Indonesia or from other places, or either?

Doesn't matter really. But I think in the end it would be more effective of the ratio of the speaker at the conference has a higher percentage of Indonesians or at least those whose struggles were mostly in Indonesia.

So we would have two stories :
1. The challenges are similar in other countries
2. There are many who can make it including Indonesian women in Indonesia

@ rabbit_39, could you perhaps provide a little bit more information around your initiative and the conference? Things like:
- What are the end objectives?
- In which context is this initiative and the conference being set up?
- How are they being set up?
- From which network or organisation is this being initiated?

Thanks in advance!

Just to share the stories of successful women with young women in Indonesia about:
- the challenges of women leadership and successes in other countries
- many in Indonesia (especially) have overcome these challenges

Not sure what you mean by context. It really is a stand alone event. The idea is to have 4-6 speakers to tell their stories. Each with a Q&A time. Then perhaps a final speaker to tie everything together and put the stories in a conclusion for Indonesian women. And then lunch. And then a job fair (maybe?) or workshop events such as resume review by hiring professionals and/or mock up interviews. I may engage with universities like BINUS (?) to see if they're interested in being involved.

- How are they being set up?
Again I'm not sure what you're asking. Currently this is an idea that I'm trying to find some support first. There are a few young Indonesian women who are helping to get some of the other details (venues, other networks, etc). But there really isn't a "committee" as of yet. I want to make this first one basically ready to go (or at least have enough of a framework) so that when the real committee is being set up to formally do the work, I can just hand it over to them. Ideally of course this committee will be mostly (all?) women from different walks of life.

- From which network or organisation is this being initiated?
Thanks in advance!
There are none. This is a personal effort. When it is ready to be pitched, we may connect with other networks or organizations such as the various Chamber of Commerces, universities, etc.

Hope it answers your questions. If it doesn't, let me know.

Thanks!

@ rabbit_39 ... If I understand correctly, you are in the process of further developing an initial personal idea around using the experience of women in leadership positions to help young Indonesian women in their development, but it is still a little bit too early to further clarify some of the specifics.

Although the latter may hinder your efforts somewhat, you may find it interesting to connect with existing networks through MeetUp (www.meetup.com) or the renowned Women's International Club in Jakarta (www.wic-jakarta.co.id).

How about being born into the founding family of the country?

Sure, especially if they are interested in helping and/or have good insights to share with the young professionals

I have in good authority that Benazir Bhutto and Indira Gandhi have lots of time in their schedule now. It might be tricky to get them to communicate directly, but I know this awesome dukun that would love to be the go-between for a modest sum. :bolt:

I'm not sure who those people are. But if you can ask them if they're interested, as long as they have something positive to contribute to the young women in Indonesia that would be great.

Thanks for the help

Sounds advice, don't reinvent the wheel.

You need context, a hook. A stand alone event and just sharing stories on it's own will not have much pulling power. Matching with a job fair, workshops & partner vendors for businesses etc. is a good idea
