What kind of visa will I need for work that can be tuned into a KITAS

I have been told that there is NO visa that can be turned into a work KITAS, you will have to leave the country to get the KITAS (Singapore and KL work well). I'm happy to be proven wrong, but that was told to me by a lawyer/agent who processes visas for foreigners regularly.

In practicality that’s basically true as far as I know. (But I think accordingly to legislation not true, JIS did it one year after the rape case blew up... they delayed opening their kindergarten for a few weeks till every teacher had a correct KITAS and IMTA).

Usually 2 - 3 months. You may visit the Indonesian embassy and get a telex... enter on that, get a stamp.

Please note you then have 7 days to submit your passport to immigration. You then will not see your passport for 6-12 weeks. (One year staff did not get their passports for 3 months)

A visit to the local immigration for fingerprint and photo and signature.

Then the company will submit my passport in Indonesia, which I won't see for a while.

Done all the finger printing stuff before for different job. But that was a while ago so forgot the process.

The finger print on my Indonesian diving licence was not mine though.

Best to enter on a normal voa, and start the process immediately. BTW even if your visa "expires" while your kitas is being processed, you are still liable, so maybe better to get the 60 day voa

Obviously there is some certain point at which time you are not responsible, I think it might be once the IMTA is done or whatever it is you need before you have to leave to fly to SG to collect your kitas if that makes sense (the telex)

After that you are all clear, as soon as you arrive back, you give your passport back to Immi etc for process, that's the bit that can sometimes take a few weeks - can be as less as 2 or as many as 6 months if you have slow agent or are a teacher

But for the original process of IMTA work permit etc to get the kitas, that "usually" should only take a few weeks, but thats the one you are still responsible for your own stay duration

Also during this time, mostly you have your passport - usually they only need it for a few days (I think my agent used a copy to start the process going) but yes usually you can get it back quickly (because of course technically you are on a voa still and need it to leave etc)

It's a bit confusing Neal. Did you mean you will leave for RI before you will get your VITAS from the Indonesian embassy (KBRI) abroad? If not, just as the relevant parts of what @dafluff described and @William King mentioned, just wait for the infamous 'telex'. If yes, as @snpark stated, fly out to collect it at the KBRI of choice (could take 2-3 days).
