you forget to renew your KITAS or KITAP before expiry. Any real experience, please.

I never encountered this myself Dave.

But I know of someone who then used medical reasons to apply for "Izin Tinggal Keadaan Terpaksa", an emergency stay permit.

Otherwise it would have been the regular overstay story (up to 60 days etc.).

I never forgot to renew my KITAS but I was unknowingly using a "dodgy" agent for my first year and a bit here. On one KITAS renewal he screwed something up and I had to overstay until he cleaned up his mess. We negotiated the overstay fine with the immigrasi and it was all handled very smoothly. It doesn't seem to have had any long term impact as I have had no issues renewing my subsequent KITASs.

Nothing happens. It expires, you need to renew it again but if you mean about leaving the country, then yes you need EPO or just leave after it expired, pay the overstay and then come back on a new tourist VOA and reapply

to renew it you supposed to start a few weeks before it expires

Thanks, but to EPO or leave and come back to reapply for KITAS is probably the worst case scenario.

Can you elaborate?
If you have a problem, better to be clear from the start so we can help properly

You will have to leave anyway, do not overstay if your visa is expired, you make it worse

How can a $100 flight be worse case scenario? Just fly out and back same day, at very least you are here legally for next 30-60 days

No, I don't have a problem. I'm just thinking because there could be an expat or two who forget about the expiry date of their KITAS and especially KITAP as its valid for 5 years. Is there some leniency for KITAP holders or not? How can a KITAP holder be overstaying if they are "permanent"? Maybe just fine them for not renewing on time. Anyway, as I said, I have no problem. And on second thought, you are right, nothing can be worse than being deported.

No. The expiry date is just that. So best bet is to leave, pay any overstay and come back and restart the process

There might be leniency on overstay on visit visa if you were sick but not for a renewal of kitas because that's a process should be started before it expires that only involves paperwork so once it expires then you have to restart it regardless

Actually not really much difference if any in the process between renewing on time before expiry and it expiring then renewing

Only the fact you have to exit country
Otherwise I think you can renew no need exit
For kitas anyway . Kitas not sure

Nothing is permanent here. Just the terminology they use hence permanent 5 year renewal lol
