In Jakarta for the first time, and looking for more Japanese food options in Central Jakarta, where I’d like to be for now. Specifically, not just sushi, rice bowls, and ramen, but different types of grilled fish, and quality soba noodle. I didn’t see many options yet. I went to Ootoya in Agora mall, and it was decent. They did not have Hokka (atka mackerel), which is the signature fish in Ootoyas in Japan. I got grilled Aji mackerel which was Ok. Still looking for more place like Ootoya that serve both set meals and a la carte.
I did not see soba noodle anywhere yet, except Ootoya again. It was pretty decent in Ootoya by the way. Are there any authentic soba shops that make their own fresh soba by any chance? May be too much to expect. But any soba noodle options would be nice to find.
I was delighted to see ramen is popular in Jakarta, with plenty of chicken and beef ramens, my preferred types. But so far the quality was mediocre, and I tried most ramen shops in Grand Indonesia already. Even Ippuddo, the ramen specialist, was not so good. The chicken broth tasted bland, and the whole dish was just off, not of the same quality you get in Japan or Thailand. And one shop I went to served clearly spoiled leftover broth. It was a popular high-volume shop in Grand Indonesia, so I was really surprised by that.
Anyway, any comments would be welcome. Maybe Central Jakarta is not the right area for this, so I'm open to suggestions.
