I think SE Asia is very appealing for this kind of violent misogynist. They can pay to treat women however they like and the corporate culture present now in the west that says that strip clubs and other such activities are not appropriate for finance staff has not yet developed in the east.

This guy actually reminds me of another (more senior) British banker I met in indonesia, he called his female staff 'cunt' rather than by their names and would had his (strictly Islamic, natch) staff procure multiple prostitutes for him each weekend, while snorting vast quantities of cocaine in his villa.

A certain segment of the society simply judges the women as prostitutes. These people believe that the women deserve no sympathy due to their profession. The same people just scoff whenever Indonesians or foreign tourists die from drinking adulterated alcohol. Anddddddd... these same people think Ahok should be imprisoned for "blasphemy".

Most serial killers target prostitutes for that reason. After I read the story, I was glad he was caught quickly. Luckily he wasn't that sophisticated and didn't have plans to get rid of the bodies. I have only read of very few serial killers in Indonesia. Do they not exist, am I not finding them, or do they not get caught? The most famous one I could find was the dukun that buried them facing his house.

I think I asked a similar question some time ago, maybe back at the old place. The answer was that yes, there ARE some documented Indonesian serial killers. Not that I remember the specifics.
