Here goes for specially Scandinavian members (because we have it at home and we know how it should be..): have you managed to find proper black rye bread anywhere?

Thanks, will try (even though "Traditional German bread" sounds already a bit wrong...)!

I think most of the foreign bakeries here are German, Kemciks bakery is German and do quite nice bread, but black rye bread???

Well not black, but dark brown, actually.

Germans / Central Europeans tend to make their rye bread sweet (some add even raisins... D'oh!) but Nordic version is more sour.

Looks a bit like the stuff one finds in the pasture back home in Iowa.

Iowa has numerous immigrant communities including Scandinavian. Black hard-crusted rye bread is widely available and much to my liking.

Sorry, but my take on Jakarta is that of a vast bread wasteland. I have no bread destination suggestions for DKI.

True, there was someone selling "german bread" in bakery section in setiabudi supermarket in Bandung... it is gone now. I bought maybe 2-3 loafs back then and then I discovered it was way too salty and the overall taste was very strange. I have stopped buying any bread in that supermarket after I found out huge chunks of plastic bag inside the bread French baguette! But they do have small black rye bread over there.

Now I am buying all my bread (sourdough) from Mom's bakery near Humming bird restro in Bandung. Get it delivered home by go-jek, transfer money via bank transfer - saves my time. It tastes similar to the one we have in Poland.
