As it looks for now, Prabowo is pulling back his candidacy, probably because of too many controversies surrounding him, and if he loses again he would be a triple loser. Besides this, the presidential campaign is very expensive.

It is probable that the coalition and JK will support Anies Baswedan for president, paired with, SBY`s son Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, aka AHY.

What would Indonesia look like under this guy? What are his chances-by my opinion better than Prabowo`s. Despite being depicted as an incapable administrator, he is very well playing a victim and the black campaign against Jokowi is ongoing-that he sold state assets to the foreigners, let hundreds of thousands Chinese to work, took too much debt etc.

My money is on Jokowi. The voters still view him as the only one who is not in it purely out of self interest. Being better than all the rest is not really a high bar.

Absolutely correct, if we consider Indonesian voters as rational voters and if they vote based on candidates` performances. But they are not, and they can be influenced very easy.

Loll how the high popularity swung in weeks in the Ahok case, or Prabowo`s presidential campaign that successfully caught up Jokowi from -20% to -5% and lost with a small margin, thanks to US engaged political strategists at the time.

We too much look at Anies trough the glasses of the educated middle and upper class-ineffective governor, no managerial qualities, the only governor till now claimed as stupid one etc. Actually, we don`t know how the majority of the electorate-lower middle and lower classes look at him and what do they think about him.

Now there is a scary thought.

I think similar to many other countries in the world right now, there is a clear divide between urban, middle-class, more educated voters vs rural less educated voters in Indonesia . The latter being co-opted by the elite who just use them as a vehicle for their own gain. This is done by playing on their feelings and fears, whether it is immigrants, Chinese workers, etc. Facts don't matter much.

I think at the present Jokowi, but it’s a bit scary as dafluff says, the opposition to Jokowi have some dirty tricks up their sleeve, there are some very gullible people out there, Ahok is an example of this and how it works, if I recall correctly Jokowi was accused of not being a good Muslim during his presidential election

Very interesting that for Jokowi are blended anti-corruption-nationalist-progressive elites (take these terms with a grain of salt and they are adjusted to Indonesian characteristics) that wants to see Indonesia in the 21st century contrary to deep state/orde Baru/PNS elites and classes of society tied with the orthodox religious groups. The worrying thing for Jokowi is that the second ones have strong support too.
.

According to the GNPF, there are only three valid candidates and good possible presidents:
  • Anies Baswedan
  • Habib Rizieq
  • Prabowo
And as Vice President, Abdul Somad would be perfect (remember him from the Starbucks drinkers go to hell statements? He's quite popular on YouTube.).

:tape2:.

SBY would not ask less than VP position for his son, so independent and uncontrollable candidates as Somad would not be considered I think. So my bet would be on AHY.

Well people in UK voted for May and Corbyn, and I the US for Trump and Clinton, so there no accounting for people

Honestly, I am glad I left Indonesia. Sorry to say.

I think there is a very good chance that Anus will become president

Luckily this thread goes to history. Anies was the only one that could seriously challenge Jokowi.
With Prabowo will be easier.
