We are just having our AC maintenance done in Bandung. The cost is around 75 rb rp. per one AC unit. I hope this information would be useful for someone who is thinking about doing it.

From what I have been said AC checkup + full washing service should be done every 6 months. I have done myself simple filter washing and the plastic cover of the AC unit before but now I have decided to try one of those full washing service. If there is any abnormality in the working AC they (AC washing workers) also can do simple checkups and can give recommendations of what is wrong and estimate the price for the spare part. At additional cost they can refill or change freon. They also have the tools for checking how much freon is still there.

Got my "need to replace" parts list.

Oh sounds like a pain in the bum- glad I don't have AC, it would be just something else to remember to maintain.
I wouldn't mind building an outdoor fireplace though for the chilly nights.

We keep the inside filters cleaned every month by ourselves. The outside vents are pressured sprayed every 6 months. Rp50,000 per unit.

....and BBQ Hehe

We don't use our AC that much. I used it only during hot nights (dry season) on my first year in Indonesia. After countless complains from my wife how bad AC is (and the indoor unit motor breakdown) I started to use electric fan. It is less expensive, consume less electricity and there is almost no maintenance except to clean it from time to time if comparing it with AC.

However in Cikarang I use AC most of the time. However the maintenance is ... free.

I have the local AC company (two guys on a motor bike with a coolant kit with tools in a bag, a small pressure washer, and a step ladder) come in every 3 or 4 months to clean and service our units. The price is such that I cannot afford to do such a messy job myself. All units continue to chug along, even the one of undetermined age that came with the house 10 years ago.

Yep, me too. But they did get a bit greedy and were somewhat too eager to fill up the freyon to increase the price. So now I get the people from the service department of the brands itself (e.g. Sharp) and it seems to me they are also doing a better job; much colder after their work is done.

I'm especially happy with the old National (Panasonic) units but the Toshibas also still work well.

Mine are LG except for the "old" one. Its a Panasonic, I think. Our crew rarely tops off the coolant and have not increased the price much in 8 years. The factory guys I have used for other appliances are good, but pricy as well as unreliable, at least as far as scheduling goes.

Exactly this.

The inside filters are usually removable, and very easy to clean. You can use a vacuum cleaner, or rinse it with water and let it dry. In a pinch you can also use a hand broom. You should do this every month, as dust quickly collects on those, even in closed environments. If the filters were particularly dirty, you will definitely notice your ACs working much better afterwards.

This is our policy, its cheap enough.
Also thanks for the reminder, its almost time again

I don't clean my filters that often. The service which we used recently they also cleaned outside vents and the units which is inside the room with pressurised water.

This is exactly what I started to think after they have finished cleaning yesterday. Going to use them more often from now on. Yesterday was my first time since I used such a service in last 4 years or should I say since I came to Indonesia.

I use a fan in Bandung, but that's it. I quite like not having an AC unit in the house.

I found when the drone of the AC stops due a power cut, it wakes me up, when I go to Perth in the winter, no AC, bit of a job to get to sleep as the silence is deafening

I am using earplugs (in Cikarang only) as my National AC is tiny bit louder (it is also useful for a nice sleep and "missing" the morning call prayer). The downside is quite often I loose one or two of those earplugs before I wake up.The main point to use earplugs is to fell asleep.

I have mine cleaned at least every two months. Any longer than that and they tend to begin dripping water. 50.000 per visit.

You are OK if in the morning you find the ones you lost.
