Just sayin hi! Im half indo / half filo

When my GF, now my wife, were traveling extensively around Asia, she almost always got treated as a local. Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong/China. Thailand was probably the funniest, as the airport taxi driver talked to her nonstop in Thai for at least 30 minutes. She kept telling him in...

Roof drain is flooding inside our kitchen everytime there is heavy rain.

Unfortunately we didn’t build or design the house. The septic system is separate from roof/kitchen sink drainage. We do have S traps in the new bathroom sinks we put in during the remodeling. We did very little remodeling in the kitchen. Certainly looks like a straight pipe offshoot of the roof...

Here‘s my breakfast today. Beef ribs, very tender. Corn on the cob. Garden salad with feta cheese, and blue cheese salad dressing.

We buy Anchor butter sometimes, always seemed good. I’ve never bought their cream cheese in Indonesia. From googling prices, looks like 150-240k per kg. So certainly higher than $8 for 1.36kg

    Today's menu:

$8 for 3 pounds of cream cheese is not expensive at all.

Roof drain is flooding inside our kitchen everytime there is heavy rain.

Well the house was originally built about 16 years ago. We’ve only owned it for the last 9 years. Never had a problem before. The only trees are on the street level.

Here are a couple of bagels I had last week. The half eaten one is a garlic bagel, the other is an everything bagel. We brought two types of cream cheese. 50 Philly one ounce servings for $11.99, and a Kirkland brand, that is 6x 8 ounce packages for $7.99.

    Today's menu:

For my birthday yesterday, I usually get to request what I’d like to eat the whole day. I’ve been trying to stay away from rice dishes the last couple of weeks, but still got nasi kuningan for breakfast. I got my last bagel, of the onion variety, with a couple ounces of cream cheese, a very...

Kraft is ok, for what it is. As a shareholder, I’ll buy them before similar brands. I do prefer Italian Parmesan and Romano cheeses to top many Italian foods, but not willing to pay big bucks for it on a daily basis.

Roof drain is flooding inside our kitchen everytime there is heavy rain.

Here‘s a picture of the kitchen, where a supplemental connection of the sink connects into the main drain. The water is coming from this pipe and flooding the kitchen after heavy rains.

Hello. What are some things I should know before coming to Jakarta?

Concerning cost benefits of bringing in free luggage allowance vs buying locally in Indonesia. I like pork salami, and usually just end up with Mama’s when buying in Bandung. Mama’s cost about 400k per kilo at Setiabudi supermarket. From Costco USA, it’s about 180k per kilo, and I find the...

Hello. What are some things I should know before coming to Jakarta?

Costco, USA. Kirkland Norwegian smoked salmon, 2 pack, 12 ounces each. 24 ounces for $22.99. USD

Roof drain is flooding inside our kitchen everytime there is heavy rain.

We were considering buying a boroscope/edoscope and checking it out ourselves. Looking for a 15 meter or longer one, but the price jumps quite a bit after you get above 10m. I’m not sure how easy it will be to access it from the street entry, but probably that’s the best plan. I know we did...

Roof drain is flooding inside our kitchen everytime there is heavy rain.

Well, there are no plants anywhere except on the ground floor, which is our carport. It’s a vertical drain pipe from the roof. The water is coming out of a connector in the kitchen, which is one story lower. The carport, is at street level, one story lower, which is where I think the drainage...

Roof drain is flooding inside our kitchen everytime there is heavy rain.

So, we’ve been having a problem with our rooftop drainage the last few months. When we get hujan deras, of longer than 20 minutes, it starts to flood our first floor kitchen/first floor area. We have lived in the house for 8-9 years, did a huge 6 month remodel in 2016. Never had any problems...

Hello. What are some things I should know before coming to Jakarta?

Well, we often buy at Costco in the US, which has larger sizes at pretty good pricing. I‘m confident in the quality of food, and it’s often taste that is the driving force. We bought a jumbo size pack of corn tortillas last year, and are only now almost done with them. Pork items are often...

    Today's menu:

I can appreciate the artistry of fine dining, but rarely find it’s worth astronomical prices. I‘m perfectly content with a $3 a pound boneless chuck steak in the US. Do I like a real Wagyu steak? Sure, it’s nice, but a $200 steak doesn’t give me 65 times the enjoyment. Luckily, I sometimes get...

Hello. What are some things I should know before coming to Jakarta?

It’s not really a US thing, but airline specific. Some economy tickets only get one free 23kg bag. Second bag is $200, which is a killer. JAL business class gets 3 bags at 32kg each. ANA, EVA and QR, 2 bags at 32kg. Many economy flights are 2 bags at 23kg each. QR Economy light, and some AA...
