Okay, thanks for the info and suggestions. I checked the wayback machine and this requirement has been on the UK embassy website since 2002 at least (!) So it's nothing new, it may even be obsolete.- bule

Getting sosbud in UK without letter from employer?
I want to get a sosbud/single visit visa to enter Indonesia then convert it to spouse-sponsored KITAS (following the awesome guide on this site). However I am stuck on the first step of getting a sosbud. The Indonesian embassy website in UK states this requirement: "6. Evidence of obligation...- bule
