Long overstay, wanting to exit. Best course of action?

Hi Brian, sorry for this late response. This rule is brand new I was told, and given to me personally by the head immigration chief in Medan. It was mentioned during the process by my case handler as well, as an opportunity to re-enter Indonesia, in spite of my long overstay. They both...

Long overstay, wanting to exit. Best course of action?

Showing 800k baht in a Thai bank, on the day of application within Thailand, gives you a Non-Immigration O visa based on retirement for 90 days. This money needs to be held in your Thai bank for 2 months prior to your application for an extension, which is 12 months, which you can do yearly. No...

Long overstay, wanting to exit. Best course of action?

Hi good people, just to wrap up this thread. A little late update, but everything went according to plan on my return to my country. Exactly one week after my original and complete interview, I boarded my plane April 15th. Escorted by two immigration officers. During this process, they said this...

Long overstay, wanting to exit. Best course of action?

All true and correct. Living in Thailand for almost 15 years myself, married to a Thai woman for most of them. Back then it was routine to do as many border runs as you wanted, but times have changed since then. They won't allow more than a few now. I remember those terrible trips by vans to the...

Long overstay, wanting to exit. Best course of action?

Yes, true. The first 60 days have a 6 times higher overstay fee in Indonesia than in Thailand though (max. 20.000 baht), but apart from that, Thailand is known for its horrible conditions if you are caught overstaying, with its overcrowded detention centre in Bangkok. But they do have a better...

Long overstay, wanting to exit. Best course of action?

No. No overstay fine after 60 days. Deportation instead, with the consequences that means (a ban from entering Indonesia a certain period of time). Confirmed by immigration.

Long overstay, wanting to exit. Best course of action?

Thank you 🙏 Yes, I definitely needed some good news, and some kind faces. Good thinking about Ramadan, I didn't think of it that way. I also met a Grab taxi driver, a Muslim, who has become a good friend, so something good came out of all this misery. Yes, rooftop pools seem like a hazard these...

Long overstay, wanting to exit. Best course of action?

Thanks, but I suppose you mean Norway. Yes, I love my country, but the winters are just too much for me. I was a snow bird for many years, before I moved to Thailand. I will retire in Thailand, for the following reasons. The climate and weather, beaches, infrastructure, the cost of living, and...

Long overstay, wanting to exit. Best course of action?

Hi guys! An update on my misery. I have not yet left Indonesia, but I have myself to blame with that. It has been all about timing. Here is a short resumé so far. Took a taxi to Kualanamu airport on a Friday (March 21st), hoping I could leave from there on the following Monday or Tuesday...

Long overstay, wanting to exit. Best course of action?

Now you are assuming this only (?) applies to people leaving, or on their way out of the country. This law, as I see it, is basically targeting people who have their passport checked on the street, or anywhere else than at an airport (there you should have the ones with all proper documents)...

Long overstay, wanting to exit. Best course of action?

Right. And when it comes to losing your passport, I'm confident exceptions might be made. Each case is individual.

Long overstay, wanting to exit. Best course of action?

You misunderstand this law. If I refused or did not comply to showing my status, I could be fined. All I have to do, is showing my passport. With showing my overstay, a different law applies. Read the whole article, not only this sequence. Then you'll understand.
